Everytime i read these stupid threads and posts about "what is sony going to do to keep the ps3 alive" and " the ps3 will be dead by next year" Is all laughable.  All you people do is misquote people, take things out of context , and make all these false statements. And the funny thing is that you all believe your own garbage. And none of it is true. I know you guys live in a fantasy world but you have to be realistic here.  None of these companies or consoles are going anywhere for many, many, years to come.  I dont care who doesnt have ps3 in your school. You want to know why.? price. No teeny bopper in H.S. is going to be able to afford a ps3 with the exception of a few who know how to save there money or have there parents get it. Most of the adults are buying it. When it becomes cheaper and/or it has a year Worth of titles under its belt JUST LIKE THE 360 HAS ABOUT NOW. you will see sales going up.  Those 2 are the only reasons why PS3 did not sell 10 million units in its first 5 months. But instead it sold over 3 million which that says its doing great.  So stop believing all your stupid little misquotes, false statements, and teenagers trying to forecaast the financial outcome when they cant even save up for a ps3. Progresive mesh it's a claim-to-have bs from factor 5, and it's not like the 360 can't do it, there are plenty actual games that use that kind of technique.

Sony as a company is making money as a whole.  Their gaming division is bleeding money.  If you had bothered to read what I posted I clearly stated that Sony's gaming division has their work cut out for themselves to sell the PS3 as a *money maker.*  That's hard to do if the PS3 has lost Sony 1.7 billion dollars with no signs it will stop loosing money in the near future. 

Sony as the company isn't going anywhere, but don't be surprised if the PS3's support is cut in a year or two of they cannot stop the money loss.  The reality is that companies sell off unprofitable divisions.  Companies who don't are taken out.

Seriously you think that SONY is going to cut funding on there gaming division?  Your smoking some crack.  If you look at the past console releases such as the PS2 they lost a ton of money too. Its an investment for the future.  IF you want to believe your own worthless financial theories on SONY and the PS3 thats fine. But within a year or two when you have a nice shiney new PS3 in your entertainment system cause the 360 already squeazed its potential all out and they release the  golden elite and your sick of keep spending money on the same console with just tweaks added to it then your financial theory wont matter to you anymore.  MY cousin is a huge 360 fanatic. He seriously plays 8hrs a day on it.  Even he knows, and hes 15 that within the near future the ps3 will outbeat the 360 in pretty much every category.  The only thing they have going for them right now is online which is better then the ps3 right now. and they have just a few more good titles then the ps3. A FEW MORE. Which is sad cause its been out a year already and theres really no games out for it with an exception of a handfull. Yes Halo 3 is coming out woopie. I never cared for the first 2 and i dont give a rats A** about the third one.

Please please please wipe the rabid foam from around your mouth and get a clue before posting crap like this. Sony as a company are not dying off. But the gaming division is losing money fast, Sony as a company couldn't care less what market(s) they succeed or lose in, all they see is the bottom line as in "How much is this division making/losing?" If a division makes an insane amount of losses llike SCEI is currently doing then there is absolutely nothing holding the company back from closing that division. If Blu-Ray does indeed succeed and Sony makes huge profits from stand alone players but say when the PS4 is released or maybe even later in the PS3s life SCEI is still making such ridiculous losses then why would Sony need to keep Playstation alive? You think they care about their fans or employees? No, infact no company does. That's just how business works, particularly with such large corporations. It's make or break time for Playstation but not Sony.

Take a pill.  Speculation and debate is what we all come here for.  It's fun, enjoyable, and exciting...so long as you don't take it personally.

To All The People Who Take This Stuff Way Too Seriously:

It's System Wars...don't expect anything more or anything less...

You people are aware that the 1.7 billion dollars Sony's gaming division lost was from the development and marketing of the PS3, I highly doubt Sony is losing money when they arent producing very many PS3's at a steady rate, whereas Nintendo who is doing everything they can to pump out Wii's to the market, is still losing some cash on the system due to the controller development cost, which they should regain by the summer from game sales and then they will actually make money on the system. Sony has at least 2 or 3 years before the PS3 can make them any money, and that means getting Cell out onto the market for home PC's and the price of Blu Ray will have to drop quickly in order for it to also make them serious money. Right now a Blu Ray drive for the PC is 700-1200 dollars depending on where you live, in Canada the cheapest Blu Ray burner is almost 800 dollars, the top end one is 1400 online, thats just for a burner that will also play movies. They are being sold at a price where people can buy them if they really want them but they arent cheap, because its not standard yet. Alienware has already adopted Blu Ray technology into their desktops and laptop drives as an option, of course it isnt cheap.DSgamer64

Well I wouldn't say Wanna-Be-Analyst for these people. Cause a lot of it is just them throwing together random facts, with no proof, to support their own bias. Then we have the people with crystal balls, and the people who just flat out, don't know jack. So I'd call them wanna-be-propogandists/pshychics/5th gradersPrivate_Vegas

I posted proof, showing the steady and increasing money loss being posted by Sony's gaming division.  Nothing happening out on the market is showing that the PS3 will do anything but cost Sony more money further down the road.  If Sony's gaming division cannot show that the PS3 will make money, say goodbye to the funding.  If you wan the opinion of expert financial analysts they will probably say the same thing, but in a lot more detail:  Demand is relatively low, the unit is losing money with each unit sold, a price drop is needed to increase demand but the unit costs far too much to construct.  Further R&D is being invested into the system just to make the system more cost productive, which is ironically driving the gaming division more into the red.  The gaming divison itself is under restructuring and people are going to be layed off (but of course Sony says it has nothing to do with the current weak showing of the PS3)

It's not like they can lie about their prediciment as well, they have to give out realistic forecasts or investors will lose faith in the company as a whole.

If you can point out a few positives to Sony's situation to counteract all the negative feel free to.  We'll find out soon enough what Sony decides to report in regards to the losses suffered by their gaming division once they release their 4th quarterly earning reports.

But again, don't be surprised if funding to the PS3 gets cut.
