I know, it's a start, and if Sony had intended to permanently keep the price at $500 for the 60gig I would say that it was a step in the right direction for Sony, especially after a strong E3. But now that the truth has been unveiled on Sony's 60gig clearance sale (just to get rid of the remaining stock of 60giggers), has anyone thought that $500 is still too much? The 20gig PS3 didn't sell too well at $500- and look how long that lasted on the market. Just a couple months.
Sure, as expected with ANY PRICE DROP, the 60gig is selling nicely now on amazon, and I expect to see higher than usual PS3 sales for the next month or so. But after all of these adopters get their PS3s, why does anyone think that the 60gig will keep up sales at $500? That is still an obscene amount of money to play video games. And if anyone actually follows video game news, they should probably watch out for "tricks" by Sony, and to be honest, just from reading system wars it seems like there are a lot of people who were planning on getting PS3s who are now simply fed up with Sony's crap, and are ditching plans to get a PS3 altogether. And then once the 60gigs are sold out, you are left with a $599 system, once again. And we all know how horribly that has gone so far.
Does anyone else think that this price drop shenanigan will only cause sales to spike temporarily?
