Has anyone notice yet but why are the scores rounded around this year like rember how goldeneye 007 on n64 got a 9.9 but now a days that wouldnt't happen it would get a 9.5. Whats with that it started since this generation of gaming began. Why is the ratings getting rounded by .5 or .0 what happen to .1, .2, .3, and .4. Even kingdom hearts scored a 8.2 but today it would scroe a 8.0 what is with that. Can some one please tell me what is goin on it started ever since 2008 I am just really confused.Even gamespot could you please tell me.

I'm under the impression Twilight Princess had something to do with this besides, scores are for metacritics anyway, just like gameradar says.

Read the Rating System. Everything Changed in 2007 to the .5 system.

I'd agree.

Love gamesradar for that. I laugh every time I finish a review.

Numerous Game Rating systems do this nowadays. It's simply cause it's hard to make out the difference between a 7.5 and 7.6. Also no, you are not the first to notice this. This happened like three years ago here at Gamespot. And like two months ago at IGN.

Main thing to think about is, who can tell the difference between 8.2 and 8.3

TC, read this blog entry from former Editor-in-Chief Jeff Gertsmann on why GameSpot changed the rating system.

Interesting, it seems that Jeff was last active on GameSpot on December 2nd of this year.

What is the difference between an 8.0 and 8.2, what is the criteria to award a 0.1 point more or to reduce 0.1 less to a game? There you have your response.

Right now Gamespot is basically using a 20 point scale to rate their games which I consider completely ridiculous when anything below 7 is viewed as utter crap. I mean, we have more than half the scale to rate the crappiness of a game and you want them to add even more numbers to what is already on incredibly ridiculous proportions?

Yeah, it always get's to me when Gamespot's description of a game makes it sound like total crap, and then stick a 6.0 "fair" score on it. That's not a "fair" game.

Jeff Gerstmann said there isn't enough difference between game A or game B to justify a .1 difference.

Getting more specific with scores will draw people away from the actual review. Which is why i think reviewers need to use the 5 star system.

Whats the difference between 9.5 and 9.6 nearly nothing so its useless thats why 0.5 increment is better than 0.1.

It's because they could never understand what made a game .1 lower or higher than another game.

Tons of other websites do the .5 system. IGN just to name one. Now if you mean the reviews themselves, then I suppose you're one of those people who consider their opinion of opinions fact.

Kashiwaba

It's not a .1 difference necessarily. A 9.3 and a 9.7 would both round to a 9.5. The difference is actually a pretty large when your near the end of the scale.
