To see how far Square/Enix has fallen, look at the Mana series.....

We hear so much on how Final Fantasy is declining in quality, but SE also killed the Mana/Seiken Densetsu series as well. The first four SD/Mana games were awesome. The first game, which was FF Adventure over in the US was only rivaled by Links Awakening. Secret of Mana is a classic, SD3 is incredible, maybe the best in the series, with excellent replay value (why hasn't it been offically released in the US and why is SE continuing to be stupid in that regard?). And Legend of Mana is grossly underrated due to idiot reviews trying to apply traditional JRPG standards to a game that was not a traditional JRPG (Really LoM had actual "role playing" for a JRPG). While LoM had some problems, such as the very last mission and the convoluted crafting systems, the game was fantastic. Then comes the downfall, Sword of Mana was an atrocious remake of the first game, Dawn of Mana was an abomination, Children of Mana was a meh dungeon crawler, and Heroes of Mana was a laughable RTS, which being a prequel to SD3, makes SE not releasing SD3 offically in the US more stupid. There has been no new Mana game since 2007, I wonder why. The fall of SE as a developer continues. Is Dragon Quest the only development property they have thats not completely ruined?

I'd say wait until Dragon Quest X the MMO comes out before we jump the gun and say they haven't ruined DQ just yet.

Good points overall though. Always wanted to play Seiken Densetsu 3.

The reason I don't think their is any new Mana games since 2007 is because the person behind the series is the founder of Grezzo Games which is making games for Nintendo now.

Because his resent games were Line Attack Heroes (Wiiware), Legend of Zelda Four Swords Anniversary (DSiware/eShop), and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (3DS)

They only made one new game and two remakes for Nintendo.

LoM is basically a hybrid between a WRPG and a JRPG, its an open ended game, more oriented on side quests (it has three main stories and a bunch of lesser plotlines), a fully customizable character who levels according to your fighting an dmagic style, and a bit of choice and cosquence (I love being able to kill that annoying JRPG hero cliche named Escad). The world and how it is put together is based of your choices on where you build the area and what side quests you do.

LoM is awesome, still have my ps1 copy. As for SE, yeah they are terrible. Not sure how the fanboys can still defend them at this point. Although, the Star Ocean series isn't quite dead yet, I still enjoy it. Kojima is right, japan just doesn't know what the industry wants anymore.

Apparently. I've also enjoyed SE's recent offerings, despite how how badly they were critically and commercially, that stuff doesn't concern me. Still had a fun time romping through some of the latest offerings.

No, you're free to enjoy whatever you like. However, it's quite obvious that with Final Fantasy they have taken a few misteps and from the looks of the last few releases, they don't care to correct them. Oddest thing to me is the Ps3 FF7 render footage before it was launched. They know the fans are drooling for remakes of the better games in the series...and they do nothing. They claimed it would take 5 years to do, in that case...it would have been done now. How long has Versus been in development?

I actually liked the steps they have taken with the series. FF is always changing and seems 132 did listen to fans from 13 since they did change some things like side missions and less linear. Thats why I enjoy FF cause its always changing so its always feels like a different experaince. Wheter you like it or not is just opinoin.

FF XIII was a great game, I felt it actually deserved higher than an 8. That titlefrom SE was a big success. Last Remnant and Infinite Undiscovery however..

still fun games to play though, rent first or buy extremely cheap used.

How was it horrible? It has some flaws such as the crafting systems and the final mission, as well as some unbalance, but the art direction is phenominal and the stories were some of the best in the series.

Well they are starting to put out some big games, last couple of years and some coming out this year and next year.

FF13, Nier (extremely underrated), FF13-2, FFversus 13, Dues Ex:Human Revolution, Hitman Absolution, Tomb Raider, thats just off the top of my head.

Not to mention they are one of the best handheld publishers, they get way to much hate.

Legend of Mana was possibly my most played game growing up, which is odd because otherwise I have no interest in most JRPG's. LoM is, coincidentally, the only PSX game I've rebought over PSN.

Deus Ex,Tomb raider, Hitman are not being made by SE, or more precisly the teams that make their JRPG"S.

The JRPG"s you listed one is considered by many including myself to be the worst FF in history one is a sequal to the worst FF in history and looks to be a very cheap cash grab and the other one, FFversus is no where in sight.

I think JRPG"s SE has made of late are terrible, for once I agree with Texas Squaresoft>>>>>>>Square Enix

Personally I think the moment Sakaguchi left Square was doomed, its like Miyamoto leaves nintendo or Kojima leaving Konami.

Square is crap after FF10, that is why they are making a HD version of it

The thing is that all their talent went to Mistwalker, along with FF father

Square are always best when they let their people take the big risks without interupting.

FF6, FF7, FFT, The World Ends With You, Dragon Quest 8 etc etc.

When the suits at the top starts poking around it all goes to hell. FF12 is a perfect example of that. Could have been mind-blowing but they forced Vaan into the game to connect with younger players because they didn't think Balthier would be god enough. They straight up effed that game up with internal changes so the game wasn't even finished when it shipped. The story was supposed to continue for another 10h and have actual closure. I didn't help that they put the blame on Yasumi Matsuno and straight up fired him for their own decisions.!

Hate you S-E

Deus Ex, Hitman, and Tomb Raider are developed by western companies owned by SE. Really its the West that is keeping SE relevant. ATLUS is even better at handheld RPGs than SE. The best handheld SE RPG last year was a remake of a game that Square didn't even develop. SE has flopped on handhelds too. SE is "JRPG Inc." nowdays, almost all of thei teams except for Team 9, the DQ team, has gone downhill, especially Team 1, their main FF team.
