How is your online playing experience as far as gameplay goes? I know we have come a long way back to the days when we only had dial-up and online play was choppy like playing a slide show with all the lag.

My question is I just did internet speed test thing and got my results back

Download speed was 55.77 Mbps

for upload speeds I got a surprising 64.28Mbps

Are these readings good? What are yours?

1) I never personally played on dial up, I didn't play online until the OG xbox and games like UT2003 and mech assualt. I don't remember it being choppy but i'm sure compared to today it is which brings me to number 2

2) depends on the game really. Games with dedicated servers will be much better. Games like titanfall and halo 5 run like a dream while P2P games still have their typical issues. Playing halo 5 then jumping on the UC4 beta was night and day.

3) Your speed is more then enough

Experiences have definitely improved over the years. Last week, I was playing Bioshock 2 multiplayer with friends and it just felt so bad that I gave up after point. First all the stats are stored on client side, which meant rampant cheating, then there were no dedicated servers rather one of the members was randomly chosen as host, and after that lag made the game impossible to play properly. All these things reminded me that this is how lots of old games such as Call of Duty originally were based on P2P model and how same issues affected it.

I think today, as long as you exceed 1 Mbps bandwidth and have ping under 50, you will have very smooth experience.

I'll admit. I laughed.

To the OP, my ISP is Comcast and I get ~75-90mbps up and 15mbps down. Also, don't forget Ping. That's a tad bit important too haha.

And here I thought I had average internet... Now I see why some people have such a problem with online only games.

You should probably test it twice.

Download/Upload bandwidth means little once you cross a threshold. It's all about latency.

very much this, something like 1mbit adsl is still more than fine for gaming as long as the routing is good

Yep.

And OP, most of the world would kill to have your speeds.

We're just lucky

This speed is already throttled down 1/4. My net has a Data Cap of 1 GB before it throttles down the net.

And I've seen my download speed reach around 500KB/s to 700KB/s when I was downloading a Steam game outside Data Cap around 3am.

I remember when I first got cable internet about 12 years ago which was 128k x2 up/128k down (Was officially only 128k, but you could download two things at the same time for double the full speed for some reason) a was getting <5ms ping times to counter-strike servers, everyone playing thought I was the server owner. Those were the good old days.

I don't even get that now to the speed test server, which is a shame.

@PSP107: My net is shit compared to most here, and I have to pay $80 a month for it. Peak speed is like 25mb down and like 3mb up. I only pay it because out in the deep country were I live, that's all we have right now.

Due to go to 200Mb down, up is poor but that doesn't bother me in the slightest as I don't upload much from my house. The best thing is that it never dips during peak times, this test was done just now, 17:46 UK,

@Bigboi500:

$80 for 25 down is odd

I also assume you don't have cable?
