I noticed latley their has been way too many sequels, and while I will like some of them, or even love some, I've noticed new IPs have been severly lacking. I can only think of one new IP for the remainder of this year, and that's Rage.

People hate change, as you can see by all the raging the new Dante generated.
If the game feels familiar it will sell, besides marketing is easier when the first title was successful.
Yeah it may suck but it works because the consumer seems to go for the sequels so it's not like we aren't to blame.
Either way i don't mind it that much because i'm all for quality, and regardless if it's a sequel or not as long as the game is great... plus not all sequels are actually "sequels" take Skyrim for example, yes it borrows the name but the world is different, a bunch of similar concepts but new environments/chars etc...
There's nothing a new IP does that a sequel can not, technically speaking.
Most of the originality, quality and evolution of gameplay came from sequels this gen, if you ask me.
Well it's not a huge problem for me either. But I'd still like a new series. Sequels and prequels to great franchises is great. But their is only so far a series can go..
Why do you want new IPs? what good new IPs could possible bring?
New mechanics, new forms of gameplay, new ideas, that's what i want, however all those elements don't always come with new IPs.
[QUOTE="topgunmv"]Is Hard Reset any good? I may want to try it out :PI'm playing a new IP right now:
Bwaawesome
I would say try the demo.
I'm a few hours in and the gameplay is fairly similar to that.
I'm enjoying it so far, but can see how some people wouldn't. If I had to rate what I've played so far, I would go 8-8.5, similar to stalker in terms of how much I like it.
Lord of the Rings War in the North isa new IP (new reigon of middle earth; co-op RPG)I noticed latley their has been way too many sequels, and while I will like some of them, or even love some, I've noticed new IPs have been severly lacking. New IPs are risky for a company. However, I would like to see devs taking some more risks and trying new things with there current IPs (although they are fighting a losing battle with hypocritical gamers who ask for new things and innovation, and then complain when a sequel isn't the same as the last game).
Kirby's Epic Yarn was going to be a New IP.
But in order for it to sell Nintendo had to put a Familier Character in it.
Someone pointed out that DMC could have been a completely new IP and noone would ever give a crap about it because it's a New IP and would have just been pinned up against Bayonetta anyway, Instead, Capcom decided that it's a Devil May Cry Game, why? The Name is Familer and it sells.
Also there have been plenty of New IPs this generation.
This is what gaming has always been like. Where have you been? Theres always plenty of new IPS too though. Just this year there was... -Dead Island -Homefront -Bulletstorm -Trenched -Bastion -From Dust -The Gunstringer -Catherine -Crimson Alliance -Rise of Nightmares -Rock of Ages -El Shadai I could go on all day. Gaming is no worse about sequels than it's ever been and it's not difficult at all to find a new property.vashkeyIt's a lot like the lolol 8.5spot thing. People just notice the sequels and ignore the new IPs.

this is the 5th to 6th year of this gen of hardware, basically all the major companies have established their new ips for this gen and are now trying to get the most out of them. you'll have to look at smaller publishers if you want to pay new ip's, or wait for the next gen of consoles to get major AAA new ip's.
I've been trying to get friends and family to get RAGE.
I like to support new IPs and RAGE is going to be the ____.
people say there are too many sequels every year, but its actually a little balanced when you look at it :P
Nintendo is the worst offender at this. I get that they have refined their respectable series to high quality but there is only so much their flagship games can do to innovate. Take for example a game like Heavy Rain, yes it wasn't as amazing as we hoped but it tried something different, truly different. Plus imagine Mario or even Metroid trying to be some crime thriller game. A new IP would be able to achieve this with it's own unique setting.
All the recent new IPs have all been flopping hard in the past years, I can already name few IPs that came out this year that sucked balls, those games were homefront, brink. I'm sorry but COD is the best franchise and it released best games every year.
Clearly you do not a a PS3. every major player has released a new IP for the PS3. Uncharted, inFamous, Resistance, LBP, Mod Nation Racers, FI Championship, The Motorstorm series (way way way under-rated, Aplocolypse is amazing), and they even took the time to bring some familar games form the PS1 and PS2 days. Some like Twisted Metal, Warhawk, and Starhawk are basically new games.
Imagine having a Wii and waiting for new Nintendo IP's. They got Wii sports and resort, Wii Music, and Wii play. Everything else was the same old same old. Unless you wanna count their projects they farmed out and let get dsetroyed (other M), or the properties they bought just to have something released like that ugly rally game at launch.
