Great list, and videos. Number 1 was without a doubt the greatest moment in any competitive scene ever. Just epic. Thoughts?

Seen that clip so many times, knew it was number 1 just from you saying it was a fighting game comeback, still awesome to watch and I don't even like Street Fighter that much, I think the crowd is what really makes it.

Yea, they are. Im not a FPS fan but Quake, counter strike and Halo all had worthy matches to be on the top 10. Good list indeed.

I'm not interested in watching other people play video games at all. I only came to this thread to find out what video game competitive history is. It's hilarious that there are actually cheering crowds.

It's no different from going to a Wrestling Match or a Boxing Tournament.

What?

Starcraft is South Korea's unofficial national sport. There are prize pools in the eight digits.

eSports is a scene that existed since the late nineties...more than 10 years ago, and it has only been growing ever since.

Just how oblivious can people be :?

Let's face it, people aren't necessarily oblivious because they haven't heard of eSports. Sure, I knew Starcraft was South Korea's "unofficial sport" and what not, but that's just because I follow games a lot. And to be honest, I have never heard of any of these events, and I sure as heck didn't Counterstrike had such a huge following in China. Point is, while eSports may be growing, most people still probably aren't familiar with them. And as someone else mentioned, there's just something about watching videogames that just isn't much fun.

E-Sports bore me senseless. They're not even sports. Chess is very competative and they have tournaments all the time, and they don't call it a sport.

I'd never consider playing a game a sport, it's hilarious that it even has such a following.

Besides... Where's FIFA?

Chess is a sport...

The Modern chess tournament was hosted under the title of a "mind sport"

Strictly speaking, sports require feats of athleticism.

Edit: My original post was aimed at those claiming it's a sport. Korea's national Sport.

A- It's not a sport. It's an "E-Sport"

B- Korea's National Sport is Football.

still not an official one. Tae Kwon Do in your mate's context really isn't a competitive sport. It's more of going to gym. You rarely have Tae Kwon Do matches if you are a learner.

I prefer to play the videogames myself. Some of that stuff was just epic though. The Halo 2 match and that Gif with Ken having literally no health block Chun Li's special and then using his own to kill her...just insane stuff.

By comparison, look at those Starcraft matches. You don't see too much stuff going on, right? Those players are smashing their keyboards and mice at an average of 500 strokes per minute and peak at 800 strokes per minute.

He didn't block, he parried them.

You have to parry moves by tapping forward just a few frames before they hit (in a 60 FPS game), and in some cases before the super flash even happens.

Daigo even jumped while the super was going on, parried the last hit, and landed an air hit into combo.

Solid list. Not sure if it classifies as a "moment" but the lack of Final Boss 2007 Nationals is disappointing. They didn't lose a game the entire tournament, can't get much better than that especially when it's against the best of the best.

Very nice. Mind you, the last one would have had more of an impact if everyone hadn't started randomly screaming, that was weird, the actual thing was pretty awesome.
