top 3 trends that need a rest

These trends are not necessarily bad things, and I am not saying should be gone from ALL games (just used less often). My top five off the top of my head would be:

1. Weapon Loadouts (Goldeneye Wii has them....REALLY!?)
2. Regenerative Health (some games this is great for, but come on now!)
3. Sex Scenes (Does every WPRG need them?)

What do you guys think need to be used less often?

2 weapon system. I hate it! Carrying only 2 guns is boring and shouldn't be a trend in PC games nor console games. I loved using my fists in Crysis 1 and now this dumb system is taking it away in the 2nd.

either way, that's 3 games in total between 2 franchises. hardly the trend that the TC was making it out to be.

Regenerating health needs to go, badly. It works for some specific games but this trend needs to stop. I was quite happy when Halo:Reach was announced to go back to an older style health system.AcidSoldner

i disagree with all of those

1.weapon loadouts are fine, customability is great, i dont think its negetive

2.regenerative health is silly, and unrealistic, but man its awesome. ifyou dont like it play TF2! (which is an incredible game)

3.Sex scenes are good. We arent all little kids, we can be mature enough to not feel weird about sex in games. Its a subject that is just beggining to not be taboo, if games are going to move forward as an artistic medium then they need to be able to deal with sex in a mature way.

the witcher has A TON. its made in poland but i think it still qualifies as a WRPG

call of duty is the trend that needs to take a break.

-Overly cinematic games (all flash no substance)

-Oversaturation of the FPS genre

The Witcher, Dragon Age, Alpha Protocol, and probably some I forgot. I don't really care that much either way, but there's a lot.

Anyways, I would say DLC, streamlining, and multiplayer kind of taking over some genres.

There's a difference between DA and ME's scenes - ME is a bit more explicit, especially the first game.

1) LESS FOCUS on multiplayer, man o man has that hurt the industry badly. Caters to the same group of people over and over an over again.

2) DLC- No DLC ever released has justified its price or its purpose.

3) Big Budget Titles only survive- Lots of games sell poorly because they dont spend million upon millions of dollars on advertisement? I mean that is completely outrageous. A video game is meant to be enjoyed not "lavished" as some extravagant piece of entertainment.

it CAN be, but usually translates to being just too simple and linear.

6 hour long campaigns

mp for every game

year after year games like CoD for example.

Excessive streamlining. It's sad to see entire genres loosing their own characteristics to attract larger audiences.

1. Overly scripted Single Player- Kills replayability.

2. Progression-Based Class Multiplayer- It works in some games, but it's being taken too far, particuarly in shooters.

3. Zombies- Again, I love me some Zombies, but Good Lord, they're like the WW2 shooters of last gen. Stay dead for a while at least!
