I don't game much on consoles so listing pc games here.
Downloadable?
1. Geometry Wars ($5)
2. Pac-Man CE DX ($10)
3. Puzzle Quest ($10)
4. Shadow Complex ($10)
5. Portal ($10-15)
Retail?
1. Orange Box ($20 - 5 Games)
2. Any 2 pack with good games that was with a 360 system. You can get like ODST/Forza 3 for $20, Banjo & Viva for $5-10
3. Oblivion GOTY (100+ hours, $20-30)
4. Burnout Paradise ($20 or less, tons of content)
5. MLB The Show '09 or '10 (great games and can be found on the cheap)
The Orange Box = Five great games
Halo Reach = Single Player Campaign, Firefight, Multiplayer, Forge
God of War Collection = Two Great Games Remastered in HD
Red Dead Redemption - Nice long single player campaign, with tons of side things to do, and a crazy awesome time in Free-Roam multiplayer or competitive as well, especially with friends. Definitely worth it and so is RDR Undead Nightmare
GTA IV - While it may be disappointing for some expecting as much to do as in San Andreas, it does offer quite a bit, I put about 60 hours into 100% the game on my one save file alone, not to mention the countless hours I've spent online and messing around. The Episodes from Liberty City really add a lot more fun things to do, and offer a real deal when it comes to DLC (Especially compared to $15 map packs :P) get the GTA IV complete edition to get them all bundled.
Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 - I've put in tons of hours playing this series with friends in the computer lab at school, great games.
Just Cause 2 - Huge map and tons of ridiculous things to do along with single player
Orange Box - Half Life 2, HL2 Episode 1 and 2, Team Fortress 2, and Portal...enough said
(Also, L.A. Noire is supposed to be pretty long, but I haven't started it yet to really say enough about it :P)
Orange Box
Fallout 3 GOTY
Demon's Souls
Resident Evil 5 (strictly for the evolving inventory that you can use both offline and online)
Left 4 Dead 2 (not most valuable for everyone, but I have a fetish for zombie games and this one is very gory and very fun).
my list would just be my top 5 of the generation. value to me is simply buying a great experience rather than how much time the game sinks. but for people who do take that sort of thing into consideration, heres a valuable equation:
value=[(personal rating of game) x (hours spent playing)]/cost of game
:P

Game is free -> world ends yes, dividing by zero destroys the formula's horrifying mathematical precision.[QUOTE="LoG-Sacrament"]

im disappointed by the lack of metroid prime trilogy on the first page. People in SW dont know much about value
1. Orange box
2. Metroid Prime Trilogy
???
???
5. Sly Cooper collection
EDIT: or arent we allowed to list game collections /or that have last gen games on them?
This can be interpreted many ways, but if we are tallking strictly hours played then for me its
No particular order.
Red Dead Redemption
Demon's Souls
Mass Effect
Fallout 3: GOTY
Dragon Age Origins.
I've spent well over 100 hours on each game and enjoyed every minute of it.
I agree with everything but NGS2. It only takes forever to complete because of it's insane difficulty.ecobacon
It actually didnt take me long to complete at all. I beat the game 3 times the first week it was out.
I have gotten over 1000 hours out of the 3d Ninja Gaidens. The battle system is that good. They are meant to be replayed multiple times, along with the mission modes. I never get tired of the gameplay. I still play through Ninja Gaiden Black every few months and its a 6 year old game.
Final Fantasy 13caseypayne69-insert "WAT" pic-
Ah yes, it was kind of forgotten since Nintendo discontinued it (and the Wii doesn't exist in SW). Definitively great value.im disappointed by the lack of metroid prime trilogy on the first page. People in SW dont know much about value
Half-Way
-The Orange Box
-Halo: Reach
-Fallout 3 GOTY
-Forza Motorsport 3
-Mortal Kombat (I know wierd choice but it's all there- Story Mode/Ladder Mode/Challenge Tower/Mini-games/Online MP/Tons of unlockables.)
I'd also mention the excellent Metroid Prime Trilogy, but production is over for that, and you wont find it for less than $80-$100 these days. Back when it was 50, it was an amazing deal.
