Top 5 Games with Best Storylines (all time)

Games that had really compelling and interesting storylines & were pleasure to play just to see the story unfold.

What would be your pick?

P.S. for me the ones that stood out were: Riddick 1 (haven't yet played 2), and Mass Effect 1 & 2.

Edit: also, i wish i had played Deus Ex when it came out as a lot of people recommended it, but somehow i feel i might not do it justice if i play it now because it'll feel outdated. Anyway, hopefully i won't miss the upcoming Deus Ex.

The Mario RPGs I love how funny the stories are written.

The Witcher (I've yet to play it, installing it now) But I heard others say the story was great.

Wow, can't believe some people are saying Mass Effect 2. The story is terrible.

I'd probably say Mass Effect, Alpha Protocol, and KOTOR. I haven't really played any other games that have good stories, but I still need to play a lot of games like Baldur's gate, Planescape Torment, and others.

I played Deus Ex in '08 for the first time, and it holds imo. It is just awesome. But graphics never hold me back from enjoying a game. Others I love are Half Life series, Halo series, Mass Effect series, GoW series, LOK series, MGS series, Splinter Cell, KZ.cainetao11

So it's storytelling we're talking about? It makes quite a difference as I thought HL2's story was bad, but the storytelling top notch.

Anyway, some of my favourites from this gen are:

BioShock 2 (never found BS1's story all that amazing)

Metro 2033 (based on a book but I don't care)

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood

Super Paper Mario

Deadly Premonition had a wonderful story, and I like the FF series stories.

Of the games I've played (in no particular order):

1. Final Fantasy X + Final Fantasy IX (both were incredible IMO)

2. Deus Ex

3. Halo:CE (live with it, the first game's campaign is a masterpiece)

4. Shadow of the Colossus

5. Metal Gear Solid

Honorable mentions: Uncharted 2, Bioshock, CoD4, MGS3 + MGS4
