As for me: NES, SNES, 64, PS1 and PS2.
I've only owned 6 game consoles so here's my top 5:
Runner up: Sega Master System
5) Playstation
4) Gamecube
3) Xbox
2) Playstation 2
1) Playstation 3

The other guy shoujld realize that some people haven't been gaming since ps2/gc/xbox era. It all depends. I know some people who started gaming this gen. It's good that people are contributing their thoughts. I don't think any1 can say that it fails.
1. PlayStation 2 - had a ton of games from my favorite genre... action-adventure. God of War, Shinobi, Jak and Daxter, Devil May Cry...
2. Xbox 360 - has a diverse line up.. shooters, JRPGs, WRPGs, I have well over 20 360 games (most for a console next to PS2) and achievements, Xbox Live, and the new features make it awesome. RROD is a problem though.
3. PlayStation - have so many memories with this system. Resident Evil, Brave Fencer Musashi, Mega Man Legends, and so many great games.
4. N64 - Nintendo didn't need third party support when it had RARE and first party. Banjo Tooie is my favorite platformer of all time.
5. Xbox - it didn't have a lot of great games, but Halo 2 + Xbox Live puts it above (most of) the rest. KOTOR and Jade Empire owned PS2 RPGs.
yeah. the playstation 2 was an epic console for sure. a prolific library of really good games and backwards compatibility with all your ps1 games, holy crap. it was the only system i ever really needed for a long time until halo 2 revolutionized online console gaming.1. N64 was also a good system and probably the most unique out of the bunch. really innovative titles like Zelda and Mario among others. the controller was pretty cool, and don't get me started on that rumble pack.

But then there is that problem, the PS2 lacked those online console gaming type games. It had SOCOM and that's it really. Not a lot of shooters or WRPGs, which the Xbox fulfilled.

yeah, the ps2 did lack good online titles but other than that it was a virtually flawless gaming console for it's time.

The thing I liked about the PS2 as well was the balance between shovelware/tie-ins and hardcore games. It was a perfect balance. It had its kiddie shovelware crap but had some of the best games as well. This generation it's the complete opposite.
snes
ps2 with ps1 games
n64
nes
genesis
had to fit both ps1/2 on there but neither solo could bump off any of the others
Honorable mentions, Sega Genesis and NES.
Not technically a console but PC is my favorite this generation. However, I do not think any of the current generation consoles deserve a spot in the top 5 yet.
