3.Tetris
4.Sims
5.Need For Speed
6.Final Fantasy

 Didn't you forget a little franchise called Pokémon? It's at least 10 - 20 times more gigantic than names such as World of Warcraft. And in passing, the most popular and recognizable in the world are most likely Mario, Counter-Strike and Grand Theft Auto.1- Mario
2- Halo
3- Grand Theft Auto
4- Counter Strike
5- World of Warcraft
is this about right?

It depends on what you mean by popularity. Today, 1 - 1.5 million gamers play Halo 3 on Xbox Live daily - that makes it much more popular than games like Street Fighter and Need for Speed. What game is more recognizable is another thing, so you see, it depends...lulz @ Halo. in all honesty, no one in Asia or people outside Europe and the US even bothered with the Xbox and Halo when it came out. if you mean most popular

errr...last time i checked popular =/= games played by most gamers everyday. and that would mean WoW would be the most 'popular' franchise ever. popular is closer to recognizable/famous that any other thing. if you mean US, sure. but clearly, US isn't the only country in the world, unlike some (if not most) Americans would say.

2. Legend of Zelda
3. Final Fantasy
4. Gran Turismo

Well, since we are talking about popularity not quality, this is the answer to the question. /thread.

How the heck did you not include Pokemon in that list; I mean c'mon,I thought that would be a no-brainer.:P
You're right in sayin' that Mario is the number one most popular video-game franchise; it's been a constant reminder of Nintendo's video-game prowess throughout the years, both thick and thin.
Well it has to be....
I know there are others but I deliberately named the ones I have slight, somewhat or a lot of interest in.
Mario (sad really)
Legend of Zelda
Halo
MGS
Final Fantasy (although it seems its gone down hill after 9)
Currently the most popular imo are.....
Mario
Halo
Grand Theft Auto
Final Fantasy
Metal Gear Solid
Pokemon was popular but is it still relevant today?
