I don't know about your list. Little Nemo and SMB3 are essentially the same thing - platformers with costumes.

I'd include Magic of Scherazade - it was an Arabian Chrono Trigger 6 years before Chrono Trigger was released. ANd River City Ransom absolutely should be there. It was the orignal Action RPG. It set a standard of action gaming with RPG stats that is followed by tons of games today.

I would agree with everything there except Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy were pretty much indistinguishable on most levels at the time.

But I wouldn't call it ahead of its time. It was revolutionary, but not ahead of its time.

River City Ransombez2083
Oh damn... how did I miss this. River City Ransom was one of the first games to blend genres. I.E. a brawler and RPG with stat tracking and upgrades. River City Ransom... man I'd kill for a true sequel that doesn't suck hard. ... even on the Wii.

Some have already been mentioned but when I saw the thread title these are what instantly came to mind:

Simon's Quest

Blaster Master

Battletoads

Ninja Gaiden

Legend of Zelda

River City Ransom (awesome game, does anyone remember the extremely complicated passwords that were near impossible to input correctly?)

Deadly Towers
