Top 50 best RPGs on PC. Guess which one is the 1st.

Nope, not Skyrim. Not even Planescape Torment. And it ain't Deus Ex either.

So, this is the best RPG on PC according to RPS.

It's Dark Souls.

I personally don't agree with their choice because that game isn't my cup of the tea, but...

If that's 1 , then the second one was number one untill 2012 , that's Planetscape from 1999.

So since 99 , you haven't had a better RPG.

It's hard to say what the best RPG is as there are so many different types...

I find this a bit of a piss take.... but its their choice i guess, love the souls games... but they are pretty poor as RPGs.

Anyway I think it was a great game where they did virtually everything right though I wouldn't say it is the best of the best.

lol Dark Souls is barely even an RPG and it started life on console not PC. Their top ten isn't too bad except their number one shouldn't be anywhere near the top ten or indeed on any 'best RPG' lists IMO.

Except number one is the PC version of darksouls, you got the lesser console version which doesn t hold a candle up to planetscape torment

True. This list defeats all logic.

And I don't mean to offend any hardcore souls fan, but if you're picking the best PC RPGs and you have games like all three Mass Effects, the three Witchers, D:OS, the Elder Scrolls and Fallout games and the Dragon Age games... why for the love of God would you pick a game which was ported so badly it almost insulted PC gamers?

Dark Souls has somewhat became a cult hit. It's "forbidden" to say anything against it, and it appears that gaming media behaves the same way.

That's sad, because Dark Souls isn't even as good as Demon Souls.

That's not how you spell Fallout New Vegas. They screwed up.

Consoles generally do produce the best rpgs, since the turn of the century anyway

They seriously need to work on their spelling, pretty sure that should say Neverwinter Nights

1) RPS are unapologetically subjective. They can't be arsed with community-imposed meta rules.

2) One of those community-imposed meta rules (especially prevalent on GameSpot) is unstable releases/bad ports upon release. Yeah, it sucks, but the PC community got to enjoy the game after the unofficial mods patched it up and made it very playable. I'll bet KotOR 2 and Vampire: The Masquerade -- Bloodlines is on that list for the same reasons.

Also, ew Dragon Age lol. None of them should be near a top 50 list.

I'm just going to let this picture speak for me when I saw what was number one.

If it was a list of 'console RPGs' or just 'RPGs' in general, I might have conceded. But for ****'s sake that game had one of the worst PC ports I've ever seen. Even the mods barely fixed it. I'm playing with KB/M so I know the pain.

Mass Effect 2 = 16 !

And number one is definitely NOT Dark Souls.

And PS3/4 isn't even as good as PC.

Not entirely a bad list really. Apart from Dark Souls, Mass Effect 2(lol), and KOTOR. They seem to have gotten it mostly right.

I wanted to vomit to see Kotor at number 22....fraking really!?

Kind of seems wrong to lump in DS with Torment.

On topic: I think it speaks to to greatness of DS that it's an amazing experience despite being a shit port, but it's hardly what I consider the poster child of PC rpgs.

Also, Mass Effect series can **** off :) 2 and 3 are dating shooters, not RPGs.

Yeah. Also, what I have noticed:

• Diablo II is too low on the list. It's one of the most iconic ARPG titles in history.
• Deus Ex HR is great game, but on a higher place than KOTOR? Come on...
• Mass Effect 2 > than Pillars of Eternity, KOTOR, Diablo II?
• FTL on 9th place? What the actual ****?

Indeed! Especially FTL... It's a great game, but it's not even an RPG.

Old news but yeah,,, as expected yet another mainstream website got it wrong just like PC Gamer. Dark Souls doesn't belong on this list at all. Let alone at number one. It's a Console franchise from top to bottom with terrible PC ports. Games like Ultima, Wizadry and stuff are granddaddy of RPGs that followed them for years to come. And those are the games that deserve to be on top along with Planescape Torment, Baldur's Gate, Diablo 2 etc.

Can't say I would laugh in the face of a person calling Dark Souls an RPG. It most definitely has the concept of exploration and character development polished to be nearly perfect, and those are the two most crucial aspects of an RPG. Why would you say it's *not* an RPG, other than combat?

It's not an RPG because it's not a freaking RPG. According to the logic people use to call ME2 an RPG even CoD4 could be called an RPG.

Pretty sure the list name is "RPGs on PC", not "CRPGs".

Still doesn't make sense considering Dark Souls was terrible port on PC and it's not even best RPG on PC, even if we give it a free pass for not being a Computer RPG.

Codex is cool. Also, I just realized that RPS didn't even include Arcanum on the list. But made space for FTL. On 9th place ffs.

Poor choice for number one. For me it depends on whether you are taking games as they are now or for their day. As in, what impact did they make at the time? But either way, Dark Souls is a great game but not a great PC RPG.

After DSfix, I don't have any problems with the game.

Herms hate to see a console port from a japanese dev shown as the best rpg game PC has because it shows the games they hype are not as good as the quality that console gamers see for the games they praise. And as someone has already pointed out, Dakrk Souls is not even as good as Demons Souls.
