Haha I found out about it the same way you did. That's pretty good new. I'm not planning on getting a 3D TV anytime soon, but whenever I decide to it's good to know there will be some on the market that won't require glasses.

But will we need to sit at certain angles and distances to the tv and how much will this cost? If it works fine though I'd prefer this to having to wear glasses.

This is old, we've known for a while they're making glasses free HDTVs. The only question is if they'll be any good, as in picture quality, colour accuracy, black levels. Because if they can't get that right I just don't see the point in downgrading TVs just to have 3D.

I'm not sure exactly but imagine the TV shooting the 3D effect all over your room so you won't have to view it at a certain angle to see the 3D. But yeah how much will this cost?

Well the concept is, as for the tech being used I have no idea. Unless its something new these TVs will have small viewing angles and limited viewing distances.

Yes! Now we can have the awesome 3D that the 3DS has without the glasses!

Shame that that TV is uber expensive.

3D TV without glasses? Well that should only cost a few jillion dollars.

Lol, I love your Sig. I know it's a bit off topic, but I thought I would point that out.

Okay, I need to say my piece on this. 3DTV's seem awesome and everything, but I am afraid to see the price tag on them. Still, I wouldn't mind games right now getting 3D support so when and if 3DTVs become affordable in the future, I could have that feature on PS3 games. Never hurts to have them future proof, right?

I predict this to be another format war, unless they can just make different settings on blu-rays for both. If it does come to that I think the kind with the glasses will likely win, at least for the time being, as the kind without glasses seems to have a lot of limits on viewing angles and screen size.

If they are indeed 3D without head gear or glasses, I don't believe the televisions can be classified as any of those displays, or even use those technologies. "3D" is a gimmick and incredibly stupid right now. In 50 years they'll have actual three dimensional holographic projections... and it might be cool.

Awesome, I wasn't going to buy a 3D TV until glasses weren't required as I already wear glasses. As long as it's no more then $3,500 and is quality I'll look into it.

yes we've know for awhile that the technology existed. it's been shown off at trade shows and whatnot. But this is the first glasses-less 3D tv that will be available to consumers.

It may get tricky. As I understand it, physics get in the way (such as making sure the right image hits the right eye). Even integral displays, which actually produce images against which eyes can actually focus (and are not even available yet for TVs), has limited viewing angles.

Will it give me headaches and eye strain like glasses required products? that is the first problem that keeps me from even considering Pseudo 3d...the second would be it actually never adding any thing to the movies, or games I've seen it used in...

3D tvs with no glasses where shown at the past 2 CES events I think they r said to be coming out next year, but passive glasses for 3D are the best, because you get to view it on a angle, which is harder with no glasses

my guess is it won't work as well as the glasses. with vision being so important to your survival it's hard to trick.

it's so easy to notice things in movies like for example when they put fake cold air breath in post production i see it every time the very second it's done.

your brain picks up things like that in a heartbeat and it's hard to fool.

that's why the glasses work as well as they do, the physical part where they manipulate your vision makes the effect work better.

They'll eventually get over that hurdle, maybe not anytime soon. I mean, we don't get headaches from using our eyes, at least until they are strained or we get tired.

The problem with autostereoscopic 3D is that it has a very limited viewing angle. You pretty much have to sit dead center for the best view. That is why currently in very limited use. An item like the 3DS is perfect, because you are going to always be looking at the screen from straight on. If Toshiba has not gotten an acceptable viewing amgle, lets say 135 degrees or better, it will be pretty useless.

Toshiba is doing it the proper way and really the only way it should ever have been done in this day and age imo.

Hopefully all the other manufactures get their asses kicked in terms of sales and learn their lesson that trying to fob us off with underdeveloped and technology that really isn't ready as a product that is in the format that the consumer really wants is not a good idea.

3D isn't ready until it's without glasses and all these guys were just trying to cash in on ignorant consumers in the meantime knowing fine well that glasses free 3D was just around the corner and that given the choice pretty every single consumer would rather have had that and would happily have waited for that.

Also, kudos to Nintendo too for doing it right from the start.

that's the point, Pseudo 3d strains your eyes, people like me are more susceptible to it for some reason. If it was a natrual 3d it wouldn't be a problem but its an illusionary trick. I can't sit watching Pseudo 3d longer then 15 minutes before my eyes hurt, and that's usually the sign I'll have a blinding headache no matter If I leave or not. Alice in wonderland is the only film I was able to force my self to sit through and I had to take the polarized glasses off constantly...an hour after it ended I was throwing up because of Nausea.

Wow, this is crazy. In other news, my mom told me she saw a 3DTV in the paper (I think from HHGregg or something) for less than $1000. I didn't see the ad myself, but I'm gonna investigate :P.

Yeah, that'd probably be the Samsung PN50C490, it's under $1000, plasma, 50" and comes with two free glasses [link]. I read somewhere that 3DTV prices are on average only about $150 more than their 2D equivalents these days.

It seems like the only reason glasses-3DTVs are expensive at all right now is because no one is offering any small 3DTVs. Why no 26", 32", 37" TVs? But I guess Toshiba's will probably be quite small, because even the best autostereoscopic TVs are limited in what they can handle.
