Total War Developer Creative Assembly acquires Crytek Black Sea Studio over 500 strong but but da niche games

In a strategic expansion of the growing UK game developer, SEGA and Creative Assembly have announced the formation of a new studio under the Creative Assembly banner. Following the acquisition of 60 person, Bulgaria-based studio Crytek Black Sea, Creative Assembly have now set up a new studio named Creative Assembly Sofia.

This follows the continued expansion of Creative Assembly over the past year, which saw the company headcount grow by 37% and the opening of the third studio site in the UK. This new site “includes a 45-camera motion-capture studio”, perfect for creating extensive animation work in-house at Creative Assembly.

“Now in our 30th year of games development, with an army of multi-million selling titles to our name and a history of world-renowned partnerships, Creative Assembly is proof of the UK games industry’s potential for global success.” said Tim Heaton, studio director at Creative Assembly. “Due to this success, we are further expanding our UK base and developing additional projects overseas, whilst pursuing top talent from across the globe to join us, all in support of our commitment to creating high quality, authentic gaming experiences

Good news that means more ppl working to get the next total war games out and other projects.

Hopefully they do something fiction again; I wasn't sure about Warhammer, but it's the most fun I've had with Total War since Rome, and that was ages ago.

But I wonder what this means for anything non-Total War...hmmmmm. And Crytek, that's a lot of technical expertise right there.

I meant in a full game. And besides, Bakumatsu is not really an interesting time period to make a Total War game compared to like, say, any fcking time in China.

I get the feeling it will be Chinese Dynasties. Native American cultures have already been covered by Empire and Medieval. Not sure about Middle East and India. China feels like a logical choice because of their economic influence nowadays. Personally I would like a Total War game based solely on the birth of the Mongolian Empire or even more ancient empires such as Assyria, Akkadian, etc.

@CTR360: I assume something is already in the work. Total war is their priority atm.

I want to see large improvement with their engine for next TW game. DX12 should help a lot with performance.

Yes total war with a full DX12 engine would solve issues that been plaguing the game for a while. Warhammer is probably a good start for them to develop the engine.
