Got hooked on warhammer and have to say after playing the other games this one bought something any fantasy nerd would dream of seeing. You won't ever see detail battles in any other game unless it was a cutscene. Whether it's seeing your units of squids eating somebody or your dwarf units holding the line and vastly outnumbered by orks. I think they did a better job with making the units feel more lively than even shogun 2. It always fun recording and watching your battles and look at things you missed. Can't wait for the skaven and other factions it's like being human literally suck unless chaos count.

Halo war 2 is coming soon but I'm far more excited for the next total war expansion.

Yeah, it also has some pretty neat 4X and sim/management elements. I'd love to be able to play the new ones, but I think they stopped putting them on Mac.

I hate Windows lol. Would rather not deal with it if I don't have to.

Plus, no money.

I'm sure down the line there a linux version, I wouldn't play it on something unless I know I can max it out. To get the fullest experience you need something that can run it very well.

Played every single Total War game and love them all, even Rome II (after patching ofc) but I was a Warhammer Fantasy Battles player long before Shogun was anything more than a Risk type board game. Total War Warhammer is my perfect game, well until Star Citizen is fully functional.

Only the usual idiots that stick some blah, blah, RTS, blah, blah into threads on these games. Of course those posters are easily disregarded.

I could name some of them and even link some posts if I felt inclined but it would only bring them into this thread sooner.

no man, they don't count because they are not third person action games with sections where you walk slowly around while someone expositions at you

but yea when the formula is done right like with Shogun 2 or Attila its pretty glorious. Warhammer didn't grab me but it seems like a well made one, I just prefer historical settings personally

I really like the Total War games, but I'm horrible at them. I even indulge in videos/strategy to better understand the mechanics and still get destroyed frequently. I only really win when I have the overwhelming strength. I don't know why I'm so bad, but that's about the only thing that hinders my enjoyment.

Try it again, its in a much better state now than at launch. I had the same opinion before I started a new campaign last month.

Feral Interactive are the ones who port the majority of Total War games to Macs (Creative Assembly itself ported Rome 2). Feral Interactive ported Warhammer to Linux. So, there's a high chance Warhammer will also make it to Macs.

Right now, the only recent Total War missing for Macs is Warhammer.

Depends some faction have a harder time fighting others I mean if you play as a the greenskins unless you got spiders and giant and a bunch of black orcs your going have a hard time against a well built dwarf army unless of course you got the waghh to back you up.

Which faction do you play often? The play style has drastically changed for faction even as someone who has played total war since the first rome had some difficulties adjusting to faction because this isn't faction where the difference are only slight at best.

Example: If you play as the Vampire Count you need to create a lot of expendable zombie units to keep more powerful enemies in check. The top tier units for them are pretty good so once your enemies are dealing with your weaker units you can send in your more powerful ones to finish them off. Overwhelming numbers is a must for some faction.

Even the orcs need to relay on expendable numbers at times because they have pretty shitty ranged units/goblin/early units and their best cavalry will get decimated against other good cavalry units from Chaos and the Empire. You need to focus on unlocking larger more powerful troops to really stand a chance against enemies faction from the later game.

Often times I think ppl just don't pick the right unit composition for there armies so that why they may struggle in the early games. Once you get the hang up it and known how to manage your armies and economy you can be unstoppable.

Warhammer is one of my favorite tw games. Quite different than the older ones where you have to deal with chaos and vampiric corruption and other things surrounding you. Human aren't the only threat to each other and that why I enjoy so much.

lol, post this in the PC forum and 0 replies. Playing to the console audience again, so, sooooo sad but pretty much sums up where niche PC exclusives sit in the overall scheme of things.

@with_teeth26: warhammer is a much needed breath of fresh air. I think there a much more emphasis on units and play style as oppose to politics. Newer tw player will like it alot compare to older one. I personally got bored of historical setting.

@blueinheaven: total war games are well talked about in the pc forums here. Niche does mean it doesn't have large dedicated fan base especially with the warhammer brand it has now. It has become successful that sega has pushed it to becoming a more mainstream title and one of their big money makers as oppose to their console titles that don't sale good anymore lol.

yea I want to reiterate I don't think its a bad game at all, I minored in History in university and the historical settings are what drew me to the series in the first place. Warhammer on the other hand I am totally indifferent towards, I loved the Dawn of War games but have had pretty much zero exposure to non-40k Warhammer before this. I bet my opinion would be totally different if I was more into the setting.

I did really miss the settlement battles that Rome 2 and Attila had (the small towns that didn't require siege equipment). I think from a design standpoint Attila was a better game especially outside of battles, but can understand that it was also tougher to get into for new players due to the more complicated diplomacy mechanics.

Atilla had some weird diplomacy AI at times. I wish they added more option for negotiation its been pretty similar for the past total war games

Yeah, Total War is a well-received series. I think TW: Rome 2 was generally dismissed as the worst in series, but that's about it.
