DSOGaming Reports:

At AMD's recent event, it was confirmed that Total War: Warhammer will support DX12. The DX12 demo for Total War: Warhammer showcased 10,000 characters at once on screen.

Total War: Warhammer was delayed to May 24th and The Creative Assembly recommended – a while back – an AMD Fury X for 60 FPS+ on campaign map and in a 1v1, 20 units vs 20 units battle, and default graphics preset set to “Ultra”.

It will be interesting to see how much the game will benefit from this new API. A strategy game like Total War: Warhammer is ideal for showcasing Microsoft’s latest API, so we can’t wait to see the performance differences between DX11 and DX12.

.

It's been a long time coming but this is a fantastic news. A franchise like Total War can really benefit from utilizing DX12. If coded correctly, this can resolve the issue of these games not using more than single core.

Most of these games are likely DirectX 11 developed with 12 binaries and some ported features, it will likely be at least a year until we see true DirectX 12 built games.

Either way it seems like a much better API already.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. Quite a few DX12 games have been a disaster technically. That's why I said "If Coded Correctly".

I'll wait till after release to see if I want to get it. After pre-ordering Rome 2 with that release, I'll wait on that.

With Creative Assembly, it always comes down to the Battle AI. As pretty as it can look and feel controlling a huge army against another huge army, it loses its lustre quickly if that opposing army AI is terrible and doesn't provide any challenge...

Yeah, I'd be weary of that DX12 support since all current DX12 games (GOW, Hitman, TR, Ashes) had issues with its implementation. As someone still a bit frustrated at the performance in Attila, I'm happy hearing this! We're yet to see a proper true DX12 game.

As always, Total War games will launch with a lot of issues. Thats a given. But after several patches, they will be as awesome as they should.
