General Information

Total War: Warhammer is brand new game from Creative Assembly and SEGA, which is described as their most ambitious Total War game to date, and the very first in the series to support DirectX 12. Total War: Warhammer is marriage of two standalone IPs. The first one is Total War. It’s series of games where players can manage their empire through diplomacy, war, assassinations, trading and so on, on turn based campaign map and fight epic large scale battles in real time on gorgeous battlefield.

The second is the Warhammer franchise, created by Games Workshop. Warhammer universe is full of Humans, Elves, Dwarfs, Vampires, Goblins, Orks and so on. Making a Warhammer game with Total War’s gameplay mechanics means that it’s the first non historic Total War game. While previous games in the series were based on actual historic events, this time it’s all about epic fantasy battles, giant beasts and magic.

Lords and Legendary Lords

Lords are your agents that you train on Campaign Map. But this time you can take them to the battle as well. Lords are powerful and can change the outcome of the battle if used properly. They can permanently die, so be careful.

Legendary Lords are heroes of different factions. The game will ship with two Legendary Lords per faction. Legendary Lords don't die, because they are important for the progression of main storyline, but they can be injured and knocked out from few battles. Absence of Legendary Lords can really affect the morale of the army and make them flee from the battlefield.

Both Lords and Legendary Lords are powerful and have unique set of abilities that normal units lack. There are also quest battles that you fight to unlock unique items for your heroes. These items give you passive and active abilities.

Pre Order/First Week Purchase Bonus

While other factions are playable if you buy the game post launch, to play as Chaos faction (main antagonist in the game), you’ll have to either pre- order/purchase the game on first week or buy the DLC separately post first week of launch.

SEGA recently announced that they plan to release free DLCs post launch including new Legendary Lords and also entire new factions.

This should be AAA, no doubt about it. Creative Assembly has been known to launch games that have no business being launched, though, so I'll cross my fingers and hope for the best.

Yeah, the game is going to be awesome. Now let's pray that the launch is smooth as well. I think it's being directed by the same guy who directed Shogun 2. I could be wrong though. So forgive me if I am.

but i cant wait for it. in all likelyhood this will be my GOTY. total war has been getting a bit tired since empire imho and this is exactly what the series needs....an opportunity to play around with everything a lot more.

Another brilliant game for PC.

I was really hyped for the game at the beginning, but all these bad decision regarding the campaign and siege battles have really ruined the mood for me, However, I am still looking forward to playing the finale game once its released.

Nice hype thread Cloud_imperium. I'm gonna go with an AAA on this one. I should be finish with Uncharted 4 by the time Total War: Warhammer releases and gonna have to take a few days off work to play this. Not really super hype though but I am looking forward to playing Warhammer. I know this is a wishful thinking but less buggy day one release please. At least.

Well Attila was a solid launch. Here's hoping that this time it'll be the same.

Jep, Attila was a nice and enjoyable addition to the total war franchise; however, a lot of fans complained about poor performance and some of them weren't exactly thrilled about the amount of dlcs which they were getting shortly after launch.

Gonna say it gets a 9.

Yeah the game was demanding as hell but keep in mind that it was also one helluva looker. Still, more optimized would be nice and so far it seems like Warhammer is an improvement.

Has always been an AA franchise at GS, but I'm saying AAA, let the hype flow baby!

They are finally abandoning 32 bit support as well as adding dx12 support, which is a huge improvement over previous total wars. :)

AAA all day every day, one of my most hyped games this year

Yeah,,, let's hope that DX12 is not an afterthought and utilized properly. CA released DX11 patch for Shogun 2 post launch and it made the game so much better. There were so many graphics improvements and the game ran better after that patch as well. So fingers crossed.

Looks like the game will use Denuvo. As if millions of copies that their every game sells was not enough. I just hope it won't hurt modding scene and the game is polished on launch.

That is funny, cause some of their "fans" stated previously that they would pirate the game if they don't remove the preorder dlc, looks like ca is taking those threats very seriously...

@mjorh: Unfortantly people enthusiastically chanted the same thing thing about Rome II, caution is warranted.

Personal hype: AAA

I'm hyping AA, the copy and paste layouts for the cities is a real let down. It's one of the major components of the game and all the cities are the same boring square layout. Horrendously bad design decision, what's the point if all the sieges regardless of the races play more or less the same every time?

How long do you think it'll be until we see an Age of Sigmar DLC?

A probable other issue, however extreme DLC sponging has been in the past, with Sega salivating at the prospect of Warhammers income, it's going to blitzed.

Most likely we won't see a AoS dlc cause AoS is receiving a "pretty meh" in the table top scene.

8/10 I believe will be its score if its launch is anything like the past two Total War games. But this Total War is much different from the others so maybe a 9/10.

7 out of 10.. You guys must have completely forgotten Rome 2 Total War.. And the fact that the dev completely lied to people with the AI being "improved" and the graphics they have shown.. Even the Attila one is getting roasted by the community for it's nickle and diming of people for factions.. Which they seem to be doing for this.. I hope it's good, but judging by many of these responses people must have completely forgot about the absolute trainwreck that was Rome 2 Total War which had hype just like this back it before release.. For the love of everything, do not preorder this game.. If you do and it turns out to be a Rome 2, you deserve every bit to lose that money for being suckered in by a company that has shown to lie to people and nickle and dime them with dlc..

... Seriously its like the pc community has had memory loss and completely omitted the absolute travesty of the Rome 2 Total War release which was being touted to kingdom come as one of the biggest games in years to release.. Only to become a tremendous flop..
