This thread is focus on games that have been announced but abandoned for all intents and purposes. Feel free to add.🤭
Its so fking pathetic how the IP that got me into shooters is being treated by Microsoft. And the fact that RARE themselves have admitted that they don't even know what Everwilds is supposed to be... i mean wtf is going on at that studio? MS should redirect em to develop CoD skins, that's all they're capable of doing at this point.
Maybe add Redfall to the list? The promised DLC doesn't seem to be on the radar anywhere... But maybe they will update us at the upcoming media event.
Y’all remember Deep Down? That PS3 game that looked awesome when I first saw the trailer like over a decade ago
Also throwing in Pragmata? Haven’t heard anything of this since the delay
3 games that come to find are... (I'll let the trailers speak for themselves)
(This one hurt me personally and the most) Beyond Good and Evil 2:
Earthworm Jim 4:
The Wild: (This was supposed to come out for PS4 but haven't heard jacked since the arrival of PS5)
Is abandonware copyrighted material that its owner disown? Should the games mentioned on this thread should be properly called "vaporware"?
This is Vegas - AKA, 60 million dollars of development flushed down the toilet
Final Fantasy Versus XIII - Repurposed as FFXV
Fortress - Planned FFXII spinoff developed by GRIN (Now Overkill Software)
Eight Days - Cancelled Sony London game for PS3
Gotham By Gaslight - The ElseWorlds Batman game from the F.3.A.R. devs
Vaporware is one of my favorite gaming subjects for some reason
@R4gn4r0k: man I'm still bummed about The Last Night
I've held out hope for such a long time. But when does a game in development hell for so long ever turn out good?
Skull & Bones and Suicide Squad are two recent examples of games with very long development cycles, both games suck.
On the other hand we have System Shock remake, a game that was rebooted several times but managed to leave its nasty past behind and came out unscaved, it came out excellent in fact.
Mostly mod teams and smaller teams can make a very long development cycle work (Black Mesa, Skyblivion, etc)
I forgot about Last Night and Little Devil Inside.
That's the thing about these vaporware titles, they really come and go.
But yeah I've had The Last Night on my Steam wishlist for so long, and usually make lists in a .docx somewhere about every interesting title I see at E3. There's a ton of articles from game websites that look into The Last Night, if you want a nice read.
@Pedro: Can we include franchises that have been mothballed, retired, or otherwise forgotten or neglected for so long they are gone?
Anyway, as for vaporware, I'd like to say:
Original Prey 2 concept; open-world alien bounty-hunting game. Looked pretty great. I loved the original Prey and was looking forward to a game set in the same universe.
Huxley, an MMOFPS. Seemed like it would be great and lord knows we have a.) too many MMORPG's and b.) not enough MMOFPS.
Original Team Fortress 2 concept
And lastly Starcraft Ghost
Adding to the list, Project Offset.
Oh man I forgot about that one.

Pretty sure deep down became dragon's dogma.
@mrbojangles25: "Can we include franchises that have been mothballed, retired, or otherwise forgotten or neglected for so long they are gone?"
Why not?😁
OK cool, going to toss No One Lives Forever into the mix then. I think it's a victim of copyright hoarding; iirc Warner Bros holds the IP but as far as I can tell they don't plan on bringing it back.
Add to the list:
Oni, a throwback to Bungie's glory days
Blood
SHOGO; it was doing Titanfall before Titanfall was Titanfall (though Titanfall is better imo lol)
@mrbojangles25: Prey 2 looked super cool. There are so many games that could benefit from a great bounty hunter mechanic. And Shogo was neat too. I only played the demo, but there was something about the scale and weapons that felt great.
@BenjaminBanklin: At least we got A "Vegas" game. Just not by Midway, and not realistic looking. But...
Anyway, my vaporware choices:
Gauntlet DS (STILL pissed about this one)
Beyond Good and Evil 2 (good job inflating Randy Pitchford's ego by taking longer than DNF, Ubi...)
Starcraft Ghost (oh I'm also pissed at this one)
Maybe add Redfall to the list? The promised DLC doesn't seem to be on the radar anywhere... But maybe they will update us at the upcoming media event.
People said their 60fps patch was vaporware.
MOAR!
I'm sure everyone remembers this. This is pretty much NAMCO not holding up their end of the bargain.
Snoopy WWI Flying Ace - This one is obscure because it got repurposed into Snoopy Flying Ace for XBLA when Microsoft picked it up
True Fantasy Live Online - Level 5 developed game that didn't pan out for a variety of reasons, the main one being that Level 5 had no experience with network coding
Shenmue Online - SEGA was obviously in over their heads with this one. The IP wasn't strong enough to justify this, nor did hardcore Shenmue fans want it
Mega Man Legends 3 - Ruthlessly canned with CAPCOM giving the middle finger to devs that expressed they'd like to complete it for them
the open world splinter cell conviction "hobo sam" concept, following on from the unexpected events at the end of double agent.
looked not far off completion when the beta version was demo'd at e3 2007 but then scrapped entirely. resurfaced in a very different guise at e3 2009 as the conviction we ended up with
Huxley, it seemed like it was aiming to do what Destiny series did. World Of Darkness looked like it could have been a neat MMO. Project Legion could have been a decent Planetside competitor. Peria Chronicles was done dirty by Nexon. That game could have had PalWord's success. Dragon Hound looked the most interesting out of the monster hunter inspired genre. Ein Epicus Incognitus looked like a nice game that never was. I hate NCsoft staff member that was in charge of Project Hon that embezzling his greed got the game cancelled.
Both of those games will be part of the Xbox June show. Bank on it!!! ;o
I didn't say what year June show, so I'm covered. lol :P
SF x T shit the bed so badly, it no longer made sense to do another one. Capcom was determined to make every wrong decision possible with that game. It's not exactly cancelled, just put on-hold due to Namco is working so many projects. Even if Tekken x Street Fighter does happen at some point, it won't be the same game that was being made before😔
I think this is just piling on right now with any hint of Xbox bad news but here ya go...
But still, it's not vaporware. lol :P

The game was announced back in 2020.
@Pedro:
You know it my friend.
Notice I posted this info here instead of making a whole new thread about this news, but a cow must have saw this and used the info to create yet another Xbox bashing thread.
Also notice all those that portend to being just a fair bystander in SW are the same who've come out of the woodwork bashing Xbox the most. You also know who they are, I'm sure. ;)
