Which do you prefer? I cant choose since i like how the trophies have a rank ex. bronze, silver, gold, platinum...but although the xbox achievements arejust numbers, the achievements seem to be more creative. Just thought id get opinions on which you like best. :D

Achievements, if only because they've been implemented since the launch of the console and every game has them.

I prefer trophies, though I don't have much experience with achievements. I just like the idea of trophies better I guess, since it seems easier to keep track of and easier to look at. I like the tier system (bronze, silver, gold, and platinum) because just by looking at someone's card you can see how many high-level trophies they've gotten. Then again, I don't know that much about achievements, so if they do the same thing, don't shoot me for being ignorant. :P

I think trophies are cooler, because they level you up and stuff.

I remember, when I got my 360, I thought Acheivement points were the same as MS Points and I would be able to buy stuff with my acheivments. Yeah, I've been disappointed ever since :P

What do you do to get Achievements?

What do you do to get Trophies?

The outcome is the same. I repeat.....THE SAME

Achievements are better since they are more original. I'd rather have something original than a cheap knock off.

I like trophies more.

The PSN really needs to get it together though, and do a better job updating the icons on trophy cards and get the ones you unlocked in your profile quicker. My profile hasn't updated in over four weeks. The trophy count is there, but everything else is missing. I've played, and gotten trophies from four different games now (Atelier Rorona, Castlevania, Fallout: New Vegas, and Vanquish), but they still haven't show up yet on my PSN profile or trophy cards.

Both do the same thing, however, Achievements are in every game, whereas Trophies were implemented later.

That said, the Platinum Trophy Concept is way better than getting a 1000/1000 in a game. Friends can easily see how many games you got a Platinum Trophy in, and I like that. My same friends can't do that on 360 without some tabulation on their part.

With Trophies, you get a Level Up RPG like system, which is like the Gamerscore, however, the Platinum Trophies are what I like. I have maxed out friendslists on both consoles, and I have 100,000+ Gamerscore and 3000 Trophies.

------

EDIT, I have been in over 30+ plus topics on this at Gamespot.com alone, and I know that they are the same thing essentially. My post is for those that want to look more into what each system caters too.

I agree but at the end of the day it's pretty much the same thing but that easy to compare trophies make me look at trophies as some what better.:P Not all games features trophies though but ehh, I like how I can see when someone has a plat in a game or not when i compare trophies.:P it makes me feel superior some times.:P

EDIT: yeah I know right, 3000 trophies... Sheesh! Yeah I like the RPG idea lol.:P

I like that PS3 gives a platinum trophy for 100%. I like the icons more for achievements, the way you they appear when looking at someone's profile is better, and I like that the points aren't set to be 10, 30, or 50 (Bronze, Silver, Gold).

I don't really have a preference on the level up thing. It's either a level based on some number of points shown or all the points you have shown.

The reason why i sorta may lean toward trophies more is the fact that id rather earn an object than a number..or in gamings case an invisible object more than an invisible number..if i do something in life id rather them give me a trophy than a piece of paper saying "youve earned 10 points!" lol

I agree with this pretty much, but I've only earned one achievement on my cousin's 360 so I'm pretty sure they're exactly the same. I do like how the trophies are listed and that you can tell that someone has a platinum fairly easy. Also achievements are no more original than trophies.

Yeah, it would suck for really trivial trophies too. Like, watching the first cut scene of GTA4, or some lame game like Hanna Montana trophies that don't mean anything.

But if it's something like "Death From Above" on CS: Source, then it's perfectly legit :D *

I sync them all the time, but lately, the only thing that gets synced is the count, not the info or icons. It must have something to do with the games being new, and PSN just being slow to update all the info.

achievments because they are easily viewed. you gamerscore is always at the top of your dashboard and you can see you friends gamescore easily and compare game with no loading unlike the ps3. it take ages loading and syncing in the ps3. also in gamespot when u put your gamertag here it automatically upload yout achivments unlike the ps3.

Achievements by far.

When I get a trophy for me, it's nothing special, but getting an achievement unlocked message on your screen is way more satisfying.

Plus not all PS3 games have trophy support anyway, they are just so meh in comparison to achievements.

achievments because they are easily viewed. you gamerscore is always at the top of your dashboard and you can see you friends gamescore easily and compare game with no loading unlike the ps3. it take ages loading and syncing in the ps3. also in gamespot when u put your gamertag here it automatically upload yout achivments unlike the ps3.

PS3 trophies are uploaded whenever you turn on your PS3, and you can see what people's trophies level is by looking at their name.

Agreed. It's all the more mouth watering knowing that achievements came before trophies. Achievements are like iPods, Trophies are like Zunes.

Let's see, some key differences between the two:

  • Trophy has a level system; where as Achievements just have one overall number.
  • Not every PS3 game has trophies; where as Achievements are standard in every XBLA game and every retail Xbox 360 title.
  • An individual has to manually sync Trophies; where as Achievements are automatically updated.
  • Xbox Live Achievements arn't just limited to the Xbox 360; you can earn them on PC games as well.
  • Trophies are only earned on PS3.

They both set out to do the same thing, but the Achievement system looks to be more solid. While it may be nice to have a simplified number to see how many games a user completed 100% -- that's the only thing the Trophy system has going for it.

[QUOTE="Ragnarok1051"][QUOTE="sanim02"]

It would kinda be cool if you can see when your friend got a trophy while your playing too. (and you can disable it if you want.:P) One drawback would be if Ty's online...:|

sanim02

I would block Ty by the end of the day.

Oh tell me about it.:P It's like everytime he turns that thing on, 2 or more trophies are earned.:P

It would be like a machine gun rattliing off, ruining your day, lol.

Then again, I constantly play games that get me no Achievements, like Halo Reach MP. I think I got every REACH MP Achievement, but I keep playing it....not to mention MvC2, Castlevania HD, Rockband, and SSF2HD Remix which I maxed out long ago.

Sometimes you just got to rock out on the games you love...putting aside your quest for "chieves and Trophies. :P

Trophies became mandatory in 2009. Just putting that out there in case people didn't know.
