Truthfully who here honestly thought the PSP would out sell the DS?

When the PSP first launched... and I opened the box and played a few games, I thought the DS was royally screwed. I'll admit it. I think the PSP is one of the most under utilized Sony properties. I still, to this day, think it could have turned out way different had devs focused more on IP's from the "ground up". The PSP is still the sexiest looking handheld ever made... but looks only get you so far... the DS is like the girl who isn't perfect 10, but she utilizes your stylus better... **wink**

PSP really did have more potential early on than what seemed to be a handheld N64+ Gimmick.

*hand* I was all for the DS, but I was so sure the PSP would destroy it. Still can't believe how bad PSP is getting served.

I think everyone did at first.  The PSP was getting good games and was a nice piece of technology, while the DS had an N64 port and unproven premise.

When I first bought a PSP, Hot Shots Golf, and Burnout. There was no way DS would beat this beast. Then, I got a DS and thought, this thing rocks. And I rid myself of the PSP, and own 19 DS games now. On its way to being my favorite system ever.

I knew the UMD movies wouldn't catch on.  No one is going to pay more for a movie on a HANDHELD.  Blu-Ray is a different story because it actually is an upgrade over DVD, and the demand is increasing as we move into the "high-def" era.

like many people, I thought the psp would dominate the ds.

Then a little thing called nintendogs came about....and things did a 180 degree turn.

I did, I got the DS anyway because of Nintendo 1st party games. It took me a week to decide which handheld I wanted.

PSP is cool to have and bring away to play in the city, but it has too many PS 2 ports and not that many originally games on it.

DS started off bad in my opinion, but ever since they redesigned the DS lite, everyone went crazy about it because of the slick new look so you don't feel embarrassed when playing in the public, and the games are pretty original too.

*Hand* When I opened my PSP and saw the screen on that thing I instantly loved it.  It's under utilized and lots of people honestly don't understand all you can do with it because of their lack of technical knowledge.  I still prefer my PSP over my DSL, but obviously it didn't outsell the DS

I thought it would be a little closer right now , but I also knew that Nintendo had the handheld userbase locked down and price advantage and the PSP was very expensive and very fragile. I think Nintendo did a better job at adjusting quicker to the market with its price drop and then the redesign and they just happened to strike gold with nintendogs and brain training. You can't expect to win any war if you can't appeal to females. I think the ps3 is going to have a tough time for a long time without the chicky-poos.

Between the launch day til the day nintendogs and advance wars got AAA on the same day, it was an extremely hard stuggle to maintain defence for DS, but all that time was worth it to laugh at avrilkilla when he said DS would never get a AAA in it's life.

I know I did that's why I got it before the DS. The PSP had and still has so much potential. The games that are coming out his year for the PSP are awesome. The DS doesn't have that many "good" games coming out this year imo. I got the DS last week and I love it though, something about it that you can't hate.

OI!

then i realized a few facts

1. younger people generally enjoy portable gaming, GTA isn't a handheld game

2. loading times have NO place on a portable gaming system.

3. a portable system needs games designed to be played in short bursts. PS2 ports just don't work like that.

I don't believe I ever thought the PSP would outsell the DS. Nintendo has what the kids want, and the kids and lower prices would drive its sells to Gameboy proportions. The PSP I always thought was for the older crowd, even though this seems to also not be the case. I DID think the PSP would be a lot closer to the DS, especially in Japan. I guess it just wasn't new/different enough. Or maybe it just lacks "cute".

I knew the PSP would never outsell the DS solely because of the rediculous price of the PSP.. Its more or less the full price of a home console nearly.. Â
