Trying to find the simplest way to explain the differences between JRPGs, and WRPGs to someone, so far I have

JRPG - Despite a few roadblocks along the way, you save the world, Good triumphs over Evil, and everyone wins, stays alive, is happy, and the world is a better place.

WRPG - Despite harsh resistance, you save the world , you've done your job, won, with acceptable losses, and maintained the status que.

Any tips?

WRPGS place more emphasis on choices, while JRPGS focus on leveling up your party.

JRPG: Characters personalities, often fantasy setting, often great story lines, often turn-based strategy

WRPG: Choices, freedom, often real time gameplay

I would break it down like that.

JRPG - Characters close their eyes really tight, and open their mouths real wide when they smile / laugh

WRPG - Characters dont smile. They kill people who smile.

JRPG- player watches as events take place beyond his control. he is driven by his destiny. (storyline, cutscenes)

WRPG- Player often creates his own character and directs his destiny.

JRPGs focus more on progression while WRPGs place more emphasis on decision-making.

Those saying JRPGs have cliche stories haven't played some of the more robust ones like Suikoden (Based off of Outlaws of the Marsh), Shadow Hearts (Occult based), and many others.

JRPG- you can only kill your enemies

WRPG- you can kill pretty much anyone you want

that's what i think
