Playing through the Game of Thrones RPG recently, and generally being disappointed at its shoddy quality made me feel glad that I hadn't ever played such bad video games based on some of my other favorite TV shows... until I realized that I had, in fact, never played video games based on live action TV shows.

So this thread is to have a bit of fun: what TV show do you think would convert well to a video game?

I'll start- I think Lost would make a pretty good game. It's got a good setting, the show's structure can have a series of games being made, plus
It can have a whole host of villains. Other grunts, Benjamin Linus as the boss, Charles Whidmore's grunts, Charles Whidmore himself as a boss. The smoke monster can be used for some Prince of Persia: Warrior Within-esque Dahaka chase sequences. The time traveling can be used for some dual world/cause effect mechanics like in Zelda games, and each character can have specific strengths and weaknesses. The game can be structured in a non linear way, with you having the freedom to switch characters and tackle his or her missions any time you want, though the order of missions for a specific character will remain fixed. Also, there can be side missions and quests like hunting, building and maintaing shelter, etc etc
What TV show do you think would do well as a video game?

PLEASE KEEP ALL PLOT ELEMENTS WITHIN SPOILER TAGS, IN CASE PEOPLE HAVE NOT SEEN THE TV SHOW IN QUESTION.

I do wonder if Wasdie will lock this and call it pointless. That being said, NCIS deserves better.

A Falling Skies game could be really amazing if done properly.

Yes! If taken seriously, it could easily translate into a pretty cool game.

I still say Game of Thrones could make a great game. It just needs the right developer.

Red Dwarf. Listy, Ace, Hadron Head and Cat find their way through a serious of increasingly ridiculous scenarios in pursuit of something completely minor. As usual.

Law & Order: SVU.

You'd play as Stabler and beat up "suspects" [i.e. perverts]. The game would support police brutality, just like the show does. After all, pervs don't have rights... And as DLC, you get to play as the pessimistic and philosophical Jew that is partners with the mean black guy.

Key words "if taken seriously." Not like that garbage Ubisoft poured out. I think ND could actually make a great NCIS game since they can do characterization in a fantastic manner.

It depends on the developer, not the show, if the developer is good they can make any show in to a great game.

What they really need to do is completely ignore what's going on in the show, and merely use some of the ideas and morph them in to something gamers can enjoy.

I wish I could say Breaking Bad (since it is the current greatest show on television), but sadly the focus on character development and suspense over action wouldn't lend itself well to a traditional game (though a Heavy Rain style interactive focus could work on a side story set in the same world).

I think Fringe or X-Files could work well with an LA Noire type investigating, mixed with some action and interrogations. It couldn't be open world, but LA Noire didn't do much with it anyways aside from LA looking amazing, so a series of investigations would be nice.

24 very much deserves a second game, the first was flawed but fun. Remove the open world and make it a series of missions, make it Deus Ex style in terms of some interaction and open approach to combat. Keep the badass stuff from the series too, like the human shields and dual wielding, and maybe introduce a light RPG element (allowing you to upgrade your starting gear, health, abilities, etc). I guess we are a bit saturated in shooters, but a stealth focus and the show's thrilling nature could work, even if it couldn't be in real time.

Burn Notice would also be well suited to open world type gameplay in Miami. Burn Notice would have you taking missions (GTA style), and coming up with ways to do it with the least amount of collaterall damage. Taking a cue from Hitman, every mission would let you use different tools or gadgets or mess with the AI or world with preparations, letting you concoct elaborate ways to finish your mission (much like in the series), and it would probably take cues from Alpha Protocol in the whole conversation aspect.

I think Chuck would also work great, a series of missions with in between bits of character development in the base and an arching plot. It would play like Hitman in giving Chuck and his team a mission, and their own path to accomplish it, and as a bonus it could work well in co-op (or not, since even tiny mistakes in Hitman games lead to frustration, so trusting two teammates could be a disaster if its not significantly eased in).

Finally, there's Firefly. Replace the ME universe with the Firefly universe, keep travel relegated to one system with tons of planets (instead of the whole galaxy), and boom. Add in a Western theme to some of the planets and such and it would be a fantastic little space title.

Fringe would translate really well into a game, because it mixes all the best elements of a game well.

Whereas shows like Breaking bad and Game of thrones, while goo, tend to drag on a bit, GoT for example just has too many fracking characters to keep track of.

An X-Files type of mystery/horror game would be pretty badass. Something along the lines of Heavy Rain.

Twilight Zone could make for an awesome game as well.

I agree with Burn Notice, Chuck and Firefly.

I think with Chuck they can sort've do what Sly Cooper does where you choose the character and do the mission for that character. Some missions you need all the characters that have there own skills for that mission and once one character's mission is complete you jump to the next character and do that mission for that character then it could switch to another character.

Cheers

You play a witty former pro baseball player who has to micromanage an old fashioned new york bar whilst juggling an on/off romance with a mumsy waitress and resisting the urge to punch Kelsey Grammar square in the face.

Featuring Woody Harrelson as a character whose name I forget.
