I think it will be the best console RTS so far.

is it me or does that anyone else get the impression of it being small scale and simplistic from those vids? maybe i've been played too many pc rts games for a console rts i suppose it looks good
i think pikmin on the wii could be one of the best console rts using the wiimote to direct pikmin sounds ideal

I got that impression as well. I roughly estimate that there weren't more than a dozen units on the field at any given time.
Perhaps these videos aren't representative, but it did look pretty small scale. I'm assuming that's an attempt to focus more on tactics than on strategy, as Ensemble has said they aim to do.

we've already seen quite largescale fights.
Ensemble has tried to keep it to scale with halo though. The big fights typically (think the covenant)
Tom Clancy's End War>>>>>>Halo Wars.
Sorry Halo Wars can't touch End War, in visuals, gameplay or innovation.(controlling the whole entire game with voice commands)

Alright then, that answers that question.
However, this raises the critical question, how do these large fights control? Obviously, it's more difficult than small scale encounters, and I would imagine it would get pretty hectic.

I really doubt itll be that hard, if you're imposing console controls are so much harder
it really isn't hard if C&C3 is anything to go by. A painting system is very good.

Didn't C&C3 have a pretty low popcap on the 360 version?
I don't mean to sound pessimistic, because I really hope it does well, I'm just a little concerned.

all im saying is that it worked fairly well for C&C3, a pc port

After playing C&C on PC, the 360 version was terrible when it comes to controls.

you really didnt just call a spartan a marine?

No, the 360 version controlled fine. Obviously it doesnt hold a candle to KB/M, but its far from terrible.
Looks very spartan(haha... I made a funny)
But seriously, very simple, very stripped down.
I think it will be ok for RTS newbies but any RTS fan is going to feel like the game is extremely shallow and basic. I mean during battles there was almost no micromanagement and the level design(combined with the lower unit cap) makes it appear as if macroing will be damn near impossible. The economy system has already been explained as something that basically handles itself once you create the supply depots.... To me it just screams shallow and bad for a RTS...
It will be fun for Halo fans to go through the story but I really don't see the multiplayer having legs because of the general lack of depth.

wow, that's basically assuming everything based upon nothing

lol yeah if voice commands actually worked, voice commands for regular functions on a computer dont work so how would fast paced comprehensive game commands work better? cause they dont simply put end of war will have a problem you will need to use voice and it wont work.

He's right really. The game looks very very shallow. This only attracts to RTS novices and the only reason why it's getting any attention is because it's Halo.Compared to the PC RTS' coming in the future, this doesn't stand a chance.
Being shallow cant detract from the fact it could be very good fun. He's right really. The game looks very very shallow. This only attracts to RTS novices and the only reason why it's getting any attention is because it's Halo.

You can use standard controls in Endwar as well as voice commands. I was in the private beta a few months ago and the voice controls worked perfectly.[QUOTE="mo0ksi"]Being shallow cant detract from the fact it could be very good fun. He's right really. The fun in an rts comes from its depth, just look at starcraft
lulz, i kid.

how so? RTS games are such that you can LOOK at one and see how good it is without every needing to really feel its controls.
The controls may be fine.
The design and gameplay show EVERYTHING else about the game though.
They have shown enough gameplay to make those assumptions. Any RTS fan can tell you that.

Exactly... I am just saying that it won't be anywhere near good enough to be considered a great RTS. It may very well be a fun game, but a great RTS.... no.
