Hey guys

i think this is the right place to post this , we all know that the xbox360 is selling more than the ps3

and maybe one reason behind that is that the xbox360 system is weaker than the ps3 , and people can mod it and blay backups and copies .

and lets see , there is ALOT of people in the world who can't afford 60$ per game AND they don't care about online , and these people gets the xbox to enjoy some SP NEW HD games .

and i think that the last time they banned moded consoles they banned 1million ??

the secound reason is thefaliure rate that the xbox360 suffered at the beggining .... lets say you have some good games and you got RROD , you go and buy another one , and there is many of you who bought atleast two ...... !!

i don't know but maybe the xbox weakness did microsoft good .... am i right ?

So I guess you can assume why the PS2 got so many sales is because of..... too.

yeah it benefited the ps2 CONSOLE sales too

and realy its unfair to compete an UNHACKABLE console with a HACKABLE console by sales ..

I'm not sure about those reasons, (you may be right) but I think that an advantage in sales can be self sustaining after a while. I originally bought my xbox360 (which I plan to trade for a PS3) because most of my friends had it, which meant I could play with them online and trade games with them. I know of a few other people who have thought about getting a 360 so as to play with friends more.

to start off, you only need to buy a new 360 if YOU WANT TO, you have the option to use warranty and get it fixed, and if you dont have warranty you can pay 60-80 bucks for it to get repaired, all this BS going on around the net about buying 2 360's are fake, they always have the option to use 3 year warranty or have it repaired

For sure it does help on 360 sales but the good game sales kill that logic a bit. If there were so many hacked consoles, games wouldnt sell as good, right?

Microsoft advertise the games people WANT, and events where there is young people at. Micrsoft would rather advertise alot a call of duty game, than a exclusive, because a call of duty will bring in ALOT of people than a exclusive could now adays

The xbox 360 has been the most consistent console this generation thats why it sells, sure the PS3 (and the wii for that matter) has finally picked up at last but that doesn't change the fact you spent years just waiting while the 360 was well in its stride. The same can be said for the PS2 and the original xbox, sure once the games came out they were more impressive than PS2 games but in that time the PS2 had already won a lot of people over.

Higher sales was the only upside to this story, microsoft got hugely bad press and production of the xbox only had 68 out of every 100 made passed hardware testing, thats pathetic.

You do realise that both of your comspiracy theories kinda contradict the games attach rate of the 360 right? If either one of your theories were right, the 360 probably wounldnt have the best attach rate of the 3. Besides, most of the people I personally know are smart enough to use the 3 year warranty that MS provides but maybe just my friends are smarter than most people, I dunno.

Games followed by the price. What you're saying does contribute, but is not the main factor.

MS fixes consoles for free if you dont know this and you have and xbox thats your fault

buying a new system just seems retarded imo when they fix for free

johnnyblazed88

Allot of consoles like my launch 360 is out of warranty.

If my 360 broke (knock on wood it don't), I would have one of two choices.

1) sell all my games and devices (I have my guitar games on 360) and give up

-or-

2) buy a new one

What do you think more people do?... especially rabid halo fans?

If piracy were a significant factor, the 360 attach rate wouldn't be as high as it is. The same applies to RRoD. So no.

It would cost more then $60 to ship it from where I am currently not including.

"Q: How much does it cost for an out-of-warranty repair?

A:An out-of-warranty console repair submitted using our Web site costs $99.99. If you call Xbox Support and have an agent create a repair order on your behalf, an out-of-warranty console repair costs $119.99 (plus tax)."

I understand you want to defend a console but "Oh my god" don't make things up please.

Back to my point.... not that there is any real way to tell how many, but people do buy consoles to replace broken out of warranty ones.

That's from my own personal experience, so take it for what it's worth.

I would think more people DON'T live next to a "Tech Station" then people who do.. in what general area do you have a "local tech station" that you can walk into? Do you live in Washington? because I dont.

If the system RROD you just send it in and get a new one or have it fixed. Even then, if they replaced the system its not exactly like that is a knock, people replace systems. There are people in SW with more than 1 PS3, 360 wii, DS, gaming PC, PSP etc. As for being weak naw, no one buys a 360 just to mod it (while people do but its not a very significant percentage). Its like saying the reason the DS, PS1 or Wii sold so much was because of easy modicfications, not true at all.

how did that do Microsoft good?

Microsoft isn't worried about the sales differences between the PS3 and 360 like 360/PS3 fanboys do.

Its more attractive among men 18-25ish because of Halo. Which then translates to their friends and family buying one. Which is sad because the PS3 offers so much more if only fanboys weren't so blind.Kokuro_Kun

Halo games sell like 10 milion copies, there are more than 3 times that many 360 units out there. Its not only attractive because of halo. And frankly, 4 years into the life of the PS3, it still lacks its huge exclusive killer app. The amount of games the average person buys will be big name titles, it is not hard to see why the 360 has the edge. And also, the people who buy 360 aren't fanboys in the majority, just people who wanna play some games. Honestly, you are more of a PS3 fanboy for attacking their tastes on a forum while they enjoy their games ;)

I disagree.

Microsoft released their console earlier than Sony, cheaper than Sony and with a bigger library than Sony. The short of it is that they got in first this gen and cornered most of the market. Plus achievements vs trophies has created a higher level of console loyalty than I've seen before. They also scored some of the biggest grossing exclusive titles (yes I know they're shared with PC

Also what's $60 per game got to do with it? Not sure what it's like outside Aus but prices here are pretty much comparable now.

With regards to your second reason I think the X360's RRoD worked to it's disadvantage more than it's benefit.

Lastly, innovation, pricing and marketing will always win you sales. Throw Nintendo into the console mix and your above arguments fail :)

Wow. This post clearly is very unbiased  Halo 3 sold 10M copies so far yet there's 40M+ console. Even if 10M people (lol) bought a new console just for Halo, where'd the other 30M+ come from? I know many people who bought PS3's for GT5 to come out (again lol  ). It's the same deal with them too isn't it

Agreed bro. Only crazed PS3 fanboys assume that the 360 sales double simply because of RROD! If this is the case, I'm sure it would be a very small percentage. Everyone I know that had that issue had their 360 replaced by warranty, or fixed. The 360 has enjoyed successful sales because of it's great library of games. The software is moving the hardware, no matter the issues it has had.

I got mine because of the games too.

I've had RROD 3 times now and got my system replaced free each time since it was under warrenty. Though as my little kids get older (now 3 & 4 years old) and more than likely will want to play with Kinect when it comes out with Kinectanimals and the wife with In Shape Fitness Evolved. I will probably get to play the xbox less and less so thinking of getting an xbox slim just for myself and the old xbox for my wife and kids.

heres what the sw folks tend to forget about the 360, it's everywhere. i can't think of popular media that does not show it in the background.

i have seen 360s in the simpsons, family guy, south park, mad tv, movies, you name it.

start watching the backgrounds of sit coms, television commercials, dramas, and almost anything else media related.

the ps3 has turned into a persona non grata as far as popular entertainment goes.

heres what the sw folks tend to forget about the 360, it's everywhere. i can't think of popular media that does not show it in the background.

i have seen 360s in the simpsons, family guy, south park, mad tv, movies, you name it.

start watching the backgrounds of sit coms, television commercials, dramas, and almost anything else media related.

the ps3 has turned into a persona non grata as far as popular entertainment goes.

The ps3 was in the boondocks so its getting there.

Well it is true that 360 users rebuy their consoles. I have plenty of friends with 360's and they do stuff like buy a 360 S just because its an upgrade or buy a 360 just to mod it. Just that's not really a reasonable excuse. A more reasonable excuse would be that the 360 got a year head start which effects hardware sales/ game sales/ developer relationships etc.

yeah, that's definitely not a reasonable excuse. you act like plenty of ps3 users didn't upgrade when the ps3 slim was released. the year head start excuse is not holding up anymore either, it's over half way through 2010 and the ps3 is still behind by 5-6 million units sold.

there was no reason to upgrade to a PS3 Slim. The PS3 was already reliable, quite, had wi-fi, upgradable HDD, and some had BC. The 360 S is quieter, cooler, more reliable, wi-fi, larger HDD, kinect ready etc. A year head start is a reasonable excuse simply because if the 360 and PS3 came out the same time, the PS3 would be ahead. I not saying its just because of the year head start but it does play a part.

I thought it sold more simply because more people wanted to buy one?

No need for fanboy rationalizations - things sell MORE because MORE people want them.

And this will really blow your mind... THE WII SELLS MORE BECAUSE MORE PEOPLE WANTED TO PURCHASE IT THAN THE 360 & PS3

No the head start is getting old now.The wii was the last console to come out and look how far ahead it is.
