Do you believe there exists a certain distinction between the "traditional PC genres" and "traditional console genres" and how do you view the two categories?

For example the PC has genres like flight sims, turn-based strategies, manager sims and so on while consoles have all sorts of arcade genres like fighters, hack 'n slash, ect. as well as JRPGs, rhythm games and so forth.

Also before Halo came, the FPS genre was dominating on the PC and the RTS genre is still the strongest on the PC (same with MMOs) whereas consoles are the place to be if you're a fighting game or arcade type game fan.

So, do you view the typical console genres as inferior and/or typical PC genres as boring or do you enjoy both?

You may express your preferences and views on the matter.

I don't think any of those is inferior, it's all personal preferrence.

I grew up gaming on my PC, so I find the PC genres more appealing.

Well Im huge fan of turn based strategies (particulary Master of Orion 2 - it never gets old), so that says it all. I also think RPGs are better on PC overall.

Consoles have shootas, tonz of shootas. And then tonz of action adventures. And the best shoota there is is Killzone and the best action adventure is Uncharted since we are on system wars :)

I find all FPS ever superior on PC and cannot stand something as slow and unresponsive as analog sticks. RTS clearly only perfectly work on PC. Any genre works on PC because you can easily plug in a PS3 or 360 controller for any genres that work better with controllers (i.e Action games like devil may cry). Due to being able to use any controller, I don't believe there are any genres that don't work on PC, but there are certainly genres people avoid putting on PC since I suppose most of the mainstream does not know its that easy to hook up a controller.

Not really! The PC scene just got out of the sight of mainstream gaming media, but it has a HUGE indie scene with some excellent games that most of us never heard of.

One example is Natural Selection 2. Google it!

I think it's a preference thing. There's a couple of game genres I try to play on the consoles (JRPG's 2d Platformers), but pretty much the rest I prefer on the PC.

Once in a while a good JRPG ends up on PC.. but its rare. The Last Remnant was pretty horrible on console but managed AA on PC.

I prefer the genres that are stronger on PC, such as First Person Shooter, Turn-Based Strategy, Real-Time Strategy, Role Playing Game, Simulator and Adventure.

The only console-centric genre I really like is 2D and 3D Platformer.

There is a distinction of course, that goes without saying. Multiplat triple A development has blurred the line in some regard, however there is a distinction nowadays, as in history.

Well yeah basically:

Consoles: Action, Action Adventure, Arcade Simulators, cRPG, Party/Mini/Rhythm Games.

PC: Strategy, Realistic Simulators, Adventure, CRPG.

Obviously some sub-genres here and there are get big in the other like FPS on PC every now and then, but basically the supra-genres are like this.

I'm not big into hack n'slash games. I never get hyped for them. Not even a little bit.

JRPGs are pretty bad imo. There's a few here and there that are good imo like Super Robot Taisen OG Saga Endless Frontier, and Recettear, but if I want a quality JRPG the only dev I can really trust would be Nintendo. There's also a select few from some retro systems worth playing on the Sega and Nintendo systems as far as I'm concerned, but in this day and age I would say about 99% of JRPGs aren't worth my time (or anyones time) :P

I do like 3D platformers, but they're on the lower end of my "Hype" lists usually. Mainly because they just haven't been really good for a long time. Nintendo makes good ones, there were a handful of good ones last gen, and then of course we had Rare and Rayman 2 before that. This gen has been pretty lackluster with those as well.

Other than that there's not much in terms of "quality" that's practically console-exclusive, so I can pretty much stick to my PC for my gaming fix.I venture to the consoles very rarely.

I like my console games for fighting, sports, racing, 3rd person shooters. I would prefer RTS's, RPG's and FPS for the PC.
