Ubisoft asked Destructoid to take down BGE2 rumor

A few days ago, Destructoid published a rumor that Beyond Good & Evil 2 would be coming exclusively to the NX. It would be a Bayonetta 2-esque situation, where a critically successful but commercially unsuccessful game gets a sequel funded by Nintendo exclusively for their console. The working title is supposedly “Beyond Good and Evil: The Prejudices of Philosophers”.

Now, some new information has come to light. During a Destructoid UK podcast, they mentioned that Ubisoft asked them to remove the rumor. No reason for the requested removal was given. Now, this could just be Ubisoft being weird, but it definitely seems to add some sort of validity to the rumor. Hopefully we find out the truth at E3 in a few months.

Well, that would explain the 404 link I found in Charizard's thread.

But what do you think? Did Ubi pretty much confirm this true? Was the rumor so ridiculous that Ubisoft had to take it down?

Personally, I still think that Nintendo publishing BGE2 sounds too ridiculous as I don't see them (even under Kimishima's rule) doing that, especially for the likes of a western IP like Beyond Good and Evil. If it did happen, Michel Ancel and co better prepare for the treatment Hideki Kamiya and co got over Bayonetta 2.

@nintendoboy16: As for your thoughts: Does that mean a good thing or a bad thing? Because I thought that Platinum Games was treated well by Nintendo, so Michel Ancel and his team could certainly be treated well too.

Also that means this rumor is true!

I don't think it adds any validity, I think it's a large gaming news website spreading rumors which the owner of the intellectual property asked to take down. All it takes is for them to view something such as a rumor of this magnitude as damaging or misleading and they want it pulled down.

I don't see it as anything more or less.

That could mean 2 things that the Rumor is valid or (which is the likely case) Ubisoft doesn't want people to get misinformed.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 going to NX isn't out of the question though.

It could definitely still be fake but I do think that it adds some probability. Like others have said I can see this going either way. It could be them not wanting a valid rumor out there or them just asking them to take down some misinformation.

Bad. When Bayonetta 2 was announced for Wii U, fans went and outraged.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if something like that happened. However, Bayonetta 2 was GOTY in some places during 2014, so the fans were wrong about the game being bad because it was on a Nintendo console. Reason being is that it was a high scoring game. Sales on the other hand.

Pretty sure that confirms it as true. Ubisoft could have just not given a shit if it wasn't.

Maybe Ubisoft has been working on BGE2 and wanted to save it for a Press Event. The NX part may have been tacked by others (rumor grapevine game) or the NX bit is also true. Ancel's working on something...

Or...maybe they just don't want fans anticipating something they currently aren't working on which will give them bad press when they don't deliver.

Oh, I thought for a second you were implying that Nintendo treated the Bayonetta 2 team badly during development. :P

I think it might be true. I think Ubisoft might remove Assassins Creed for 2016 and release Beyond Good & Evil 2 instead before Zelda Holiday release. Would be a cool move. Then they can do like they did ZombiU and release it to others later.

Most companies wouldn't bother asking to take something down just because it was ridiculous. The only time they would interfere if it was some how damaging to their brand (some kind of blatant lie) or in this case, to protect their partnership with Nintendo (because of their failure to keep this news from being leaked)

So I wouldn't put it past Beyond Good and Evil fans to do the same, especially when the original game was originally a PlayStation 2 and PC game (if I recall, Ancel's team at Montpellier were not involved with the XBOX and GameCube versions).

A lot of rumours about Ubisoft's games, especially AC, have been true as of late. But they never demanded those to be taken down.

Ubisoft shouldn't have released it next to freaking GTA V of all games.
