A new version of Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available to download now, which makes huge improvements to the excellent open worlder when played on a PS5 Pro.
As part of an enormous and thoroughly informative PS Blog post, Ubisoft technology director Pierre Fortin said that he believes the game on Sony’s supercharged system is now the “ultimate console experience” and one that “rivals ultra-high-end PC gaming”.
Considering an ultra-high-end PC could cost you many thousands of dollars, it really helps put the PS5 Pro’s price tag into perspective.
So, what’s improved? Well, in addition to adding ray-traced reflections to the game’s 40fps Balanced Mode, it also incorporates PSSR across the board.
For those who don’t know, PSSR is Sony’s proprietary AI-based upscaler, which takes a lower resolution image and reproduces it in 4K.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows originally shipped with temporal anti-aliasing (TAA) on the PS5 Pro, but the team always believed PSSR would offer a superior experience.
“We reached out to Sony for further collaboration,” Fortin explained.
“Sony worked closely with us, providing updated model parameters that were needed to perfect our implementation in the latest PS5 Pro firmware, which was just released.
“When compared to TAA, PSSR brings a more stable image with notably less shimmering artefacts, that brings up the image quality.”
Wowza, good news for us PS5 Pro owners. I don’t own the game yet, but I can tell you that the PS5 Pro has been great. Just tried out Space Marines 2 yesterday and it looks fantastic. So I’m happy with it. Do you have the PS5 Pro, SW? Are you open to getting one?
