PS1 for sure! Way too many great games. Resident Evil 1 to 3, Tenchu, Final Fantasy7-9 plus Tactic, Parasite Evil, Silent Hill, MGS, Street Fighters, Tekken 1 to 3.. God Damn!! Too many more to name!

Yeah, there is no wrong answer for this poll. I enjoyed both systems thoroughly. Using the system link cable on ps1, and playing command and conquer against a friend in the same room, with tv's back to back was some of the most fun i've ever had gaming.
n64 had some classic titles, but otherwise the library and games were too simple which was obviously held back by the limited space on cartridge. SSB1 fun times.
ps1 on the other hand o.O
PS1
-Castlevania Symphony of the Night
-Silent Hill
-Suikoden 2
-Metal Gear Solid
-Parasite Eve
-Vagrant Story
-Megaman X4
-Final Fantasy IX
-Final Fantasy Tactics
Throw in some good stuff like
-DarkStalkers 1 and 3
-Resident Evil 2
-Tenchu and Tenchu 2
-Alundra
-Valkyrie Profile
-Star Ocean 2
-Chrono Cross (it's no trigger, but it's a good game)
-Tomb Raider 2
-Soul Reaver
-Crash Team Racing
-Ape Escape
-Tekken 3
-ParappaThe Rapper
Good system, and actually home to a bunch of jrpgs I don't think are crap. A lot of its better stuff actually still holds up given the nature of those games vs the more proper 3d games of the 64 which come off as fossils.
N64 then, PS1 now. I can't really enjoy anything on the N64 anymore aside from Zelda and maybe the original Super Smash. On the PS1, I can easily have fun with Omega Boost, Mega Man X3-X5, Mega Man 8, Mega Man Legends 1-2, The Misadventures of Tron Bonne, Strider 2, SOTN, Klonoa, Gundam Battle Assault II, Thunder Force V, etc.
@jg4xchamp: You forgot the best one.
XenoFuckingGears
I actually haven't played it. Largely because it's a video game being gassed up because of the "video game story". ...and well come on, I'd rather have syphilis. That said I did buy it now that I have a BC PS3 again, so I plan on playing Xenogears, even with the expectation that apparently an entire 2nd half of that game is bullshit, and that's okay to people because "story'.

The game has a great gameplay, based of course in RPG elements by the time, an interesting focus on mecha fights.
The story, while not being perfect due the lack of funds reflected in the second part of the game is really great. I have it just a little below PT story.
And no, the 2nd disc isn't bullshit. Its just not as good. You'll love it. It was the best FF game (by PS FF standards) that wasn't called FF. (IIRC it was supposed to be a FF game)
PS1 by galaxies apart.
It had one of the biggest lines of fighting games and third party available. While the 64 had LOZ, Banjo, Kirby, and some of the best wrestling games to date, it was really nothing the PS1 didn't have.
Let's not forget that PS1 had a better controller, better sound, better graphics (the 64 didn't have the space for games of large scale like Driver, GTA, FF6, and so on in which included voice acting, music, graphics and so on.
That's not all, if we look at the Playstation masterpieces like Tobal, Bushido Blade, Ninja- Shadow of Darkness, Tenchu, Driver, Tekken, Dead or Alive, Metal Gear Solid, Legacy of Kain, FF6-9, Parasite Eve, Tomb Raider, Ape Escape, Klonoa, WWF Smackdown, Bloody Roar, Musashi, Crash Bandicoot, Xenogears, Chrono Cross etc (all which I still own) The PsOne console (smaller, better design), superior third party, and all the capabilities of the PS1, it's no wonder it takes it's rightful place as one of the greatest consoles of all time. (even though PS2/PS4 are tops)
64 DID have more games than given credit for, like Mace- The Dark Age, Fighter's destiny, Cruis n' Usa, WCW and WWF games, Star wars etc. But with it's inferior controller design, cartridge based technology, and really being a "Sega Saturn without 2D capabilities or CD-Rom space...it's no wonder it's one of the worst consoles of all time save for it's few games. There's decent territory and then there's Uber territory...and Sony has always provided the greatest line of exclusives and the best games with a stable experience across all console iterations. I'd think the 64 would have a better chance against something like the 3DO, Saturn or Jaguar.
N64 easy. Ground breaking games that changed the industry and are now considered classic on a Pacman level. PSX has some decent rpgs and a few shooters, along with Twisted Metal 1/2. Sega Saturn is better than PSX.
Does Ps1 have paper Mario? No? Mmmkay.
N64 games had more of an impact on the industry. Quality>Quantity.
Yup.

That's factually wrong. :/
PS1 had nothing that came close to OOT in terms of graphics. N64 had much better looking games. PS1 had terrible looking games with awful polygon counts and you could literally see the pixel moves. And those jaggies...eew!!! N64 wasn't perfect with its blurry textures but looked a shitton better than PS1.
I liked the games better on Nintendo64 because at the time I was younger and I played less role playing games, it was perfect for what it was marketed for and even now the games are still fun so I'd vote for Nintendo64. If we're talking about now I'd prefer the PS1 because it has a bunch decent collection of rpgs (although remakes a lot) and things like xenogears, Good fighting games like tekken and then there was Resident Evil. Really good systems.
Even if N64 released some of the greatest games ever in that era , Zelda/Mario 64 to name few , sadly is not enough to compete with that INSANE 1st/3rd party library PS1 offered as exclusives/time exclusives . The library was super diversive , it was ridiculous what was happening vs already established brands with a huge fanbase like Nintendo.
64's classics were more important (Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Goldeneye 64) but PS1 had a better selection of shit to play overall.
ehm.. they scored slightly higher and revolutionized their respective genres ( goldeneye aside ) ... Thats all about it. You know that PS1 had plenty of such games that revolutionized or even invented genres as exclusives right ? Metal Gear solid , Resident Evil , Gran Turismo to name a few.
So more important ? I wouldnt say so.. Its what every individual think as important.

Sorry but none of those games were as important as something like Mario 64 or OoT; it is what it is. Also, they didn't invent genres: they just brought their own unique flavors to existing genres.

But SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much of the psx stuff was just flash and "oh its 3D!" I say this as a fan of the console. Syphon Filter is a BAD GAME. 99 percent of the sports titles on psx are shit--even worse than the prior 16bit era. N64 has games which are yet to be eclipsed within their respective genres, along with genres of games which did not lead into the next gen consoles. There are experiences in game design unique to the console.
I was an Arcade guy back then, fighting games were huge back then as well. It was the 1990's, FIGHTING GAMES WERE HUGE!
Unfortunately, that means the N64 was a huge bummer for fans of the fighting genre. It didn't even have a single StreetFighter game and that series is super multiplat. I did enjoy the N64 though, and both machines had tons of fun and great games, but the PS1 library is too hard to ignore (RPGs, MGS, Castlevania, fighting games) as I was a man back then. Just honestly, the PS1 has way more games, and that's hard to ignore. I bought games every week back then. I understand if I was a kid back then perhaps unaware of the onslaught of games releasing and playing one game every few months, I probably would have enjoyed the N64 a bit more. That said, both were wonderful.

*high five* my buddy used to build a line of tesla coils into my base, it was quite annoying :D. C&C and C&C:RA were amazing.
I hate to admit it, but I've probably played less than 20 Playstation1 games ever. And I put thousands of hours into the N64, it's the console I owned and grew up with. And call it nostalgia or fanboy or whatever, but I don't think I could ever like the best PS1 has compared to what the N64 has, even if they are actually better, it's just the way my brain is wired on this subject. Donkey Kong 64, Pokemon Snap, Banjo Kazooie, Paper Mario, Goldeneye, I could go on. Man I just love those games.
And I don't think this way about current or last gen gaming at all, it's just the N64 and somewhat the GC gens.
I had much more fun with the PS1. Both were awesome though, if you skipped either console you were missing out big time. Especially with local multiplayer stuff, the N64 was killing it.
Anyone who says n64 did not have a proper ps1 experience
Or values their time playing some couch 4 player more

Allegedly it was supposed to be FF8, but I think the guch thought it was too dark for Final Fantasy.
