Uncharted has some nice visual details that are more a matter of thoughtful art direction than technical prowess; other than that, its graphics look decidedly average and definitely not better than Gears.OremLK

Well, this is not accurate, Gears has VASTLY more detail around the levels, like destroyed houses etc, Drake covers up everything with walls and small levels, it is not as good as Gears IMO, butit looks better due to art mainly

Plus Gears frame rates were vastly smoother too

Umm, I'm as exicted for ME as the next guy, buy uncharted is better looking graphically. Compare a screenshot of mass effect running with uncharted, uncharted looks better. (Not a conversation pic)

Even though ME looks good graphically the hair and the facial expressions look pretty bad compared to Uncharted,I don't know if it's just me but the facial expression in ME look lifeless and the hair on the characters look like clay.

Thats not what matters, what matters is, in its first year 360 produced an incredibly looking game, and in PS3's first year, it produced a game that looked better then it.

Making better looking games isn't only tied to a single console, it's also tied in a more overall way.
Gears is more then a year old, yet in terms of graphics, it really doesn't look much different then Uncharted except for the art design.
Gears is a very dark game compared to Uncharted.

XBOX 360 fanboy once again. You do know that mass effect is also made through the unreal 3 engine, just as Gears is. So if it looks better than gears it lookes better than ME.

However, this game unlike some *cough*Kameo*cough* has a decent reason for shiny rocks. Namely an extremely rainy region in which that particular shot is taken. You'll notice it isn't shiny where there is a large quantity of moss.

i wont take eurogamers words, considering they bash gears everyway possible and were the only site who gave gears an ok score, gears multiplayer alone is amazing, combined with epic 100% action single player with awesome graphics....yeah thats an 8 game :| and that was all year ago, then a game comes out with no multiplayer, just single player and they give it a 9 saying it looks better then gears lol GTFO

Its been pretty well known, of course the same engine can be used to drastically different results and ME looks great, but agree Uncharted is better.

Halo 3s textures are knowhere as good as uncharted. Some spots are great, others are abysmal (indoor areas, faces ect.)

However.

I do think the characters in Uncharted look like Barbie Dolls.

But.

I think Uncharted > Mass Effect in terms of visuals. Uncharated has alot more going on, not to mention it looks nicer, in comparison to the very sterile ME. Though ME's characters look worlds better.

Lol moss :). It isn't shiny everywhere, because it's a still image, if the guy would turn to the left, the lightsource would make the right side of the rock shine and leave the centre dark. It's normal bump-mapping and other mapping tehniques as said 1999. It looks nice altho nothin to brag about seriously.

i dont know, all i noticed was that Halo-ish artstyle made the game look bad...thats all, textures are pretty good mostly....also does uncharted have high res textures like in that pic everywhere in the game?
