Ever notice a lack of fighting games for the PC in the past gen or so? Earlier there was a thread that pointed out the obvious. But is it really unfair to bash the PC for it since developers hadn't really gave it a chance to do so. Of course many PC gamers could care less about a lack of fighting games. But PC do have joystick/arcade pad support which many fanboys and developers seem to had forgotten about.

Of course, PC gamers tell console gamers that RTS can't really work on the consoles, but PC has limitless possibilites for all of the genres to coincide on the PC platform. Though there are "other sources" to play fighting games on the PC.

Question is who the hell wants to play a Fighting game on a PC?

More importantly who the hell wants to make one? :?

Maybe VF5 will get ported...

PC could do fighting games if it wanted too. You can make it a console if you want. The thing is that most PC gamers don't prefer fighting games. Hardcore fighting game fans are few and far between.

Honestly, if they made the best fighting game ever made tomorrow for the PC ...I wouldn't care.

Thats what I mean that PC gamers can care less about it, but if there was a much larger selection of fighting games on the PC, it can widen the already huge base of PC users.

That is true but put yourself into the shoes of the developers....they would be taking a risk making them.

I do plan on being a game developer, though. But could you clarify on how big of a risk could it be?

I think its maybe because a mouse and keyboard are not good for fighters, and mouse and keyboard is the only standardized controller for pc gaming. Why make a fighting game for a system when there could be a dozen different controllers out there, most of which gamers would have to buy just forthat game? It would be like sony developing eyetoy games: it's not really practical to devote too many resources into non standardized peripherals (and those developers wouldn't benefit from the sales of those peripherals anyway)

PC developers are taking a risk on making anything that isn't a Sims expansion pack or a budget kids title.

Fighting games on a keyboard? LOLOut_Kast3000

there was this anime fighting game called queen of hearts on for the PC a few years back. just used the arrows and z,x,c. It was really simple but was entertaing.

For the most part though fightings games don't work without a joystick. Even on consoles controllers the controls are clumsy and never feel right. I also consider fighting games to be more of a party game. Its alwasys more fun when playing with friends. I just don't think you can emulate that feeling online.. maybe i'm just too used to the arcades.

If it is unfair to bash the PC for lack of quality titles in MANY genres of games, then the same is true for the PS3. Without that argument, the Lemmings lose the foothold on the gamespot forums......it would be like the democratic senate under the PO'd republican whitehouse....

That said, I digress. You can seriously only bash any console for one thing, and that is lack of quality exclusives, because nothing else really matters after all. If the PC wants to be included in the console war, it can take the same criticisms its console bretheren can. If it doesn't, omg, all three hermits will stop posting.

You aren't looking hard enough. There may not be many fighting games for PC with big-name publishers, but there's many indie/doujin fighting games out there.

I'm not much of a fighting game fan, but I play Melty Blood: Act Cadenza B regularly. It has a great deal of depth, awesome characters/backstories (it's based on the Japanese visual novel 'Tsukihime',) and GREAT sound with some top-notch voice-actors (you'll hear them in that video.)

note: The "Last Arc" clips in that video are extremely impractical and can very rarely be used in an actual match, but they're flashy and quite nice to look at. They require alot of Magic Circuit (used for all supermoves) and require perfect timing.

There's some other good indie/doujin 2D fighting games out there for PC (many of which are Japanese) but Melty Blood is definitely one of the best.

I am trying to figure if a keyboard could be a good for fighting games. I know the up/down/etc. keys would make excellent use but the attack buttons, thats another question.

Actually, the keyboard works better for precise input than most gamepads in my experience.

Arcade Stick > Keyboard > Gamepad (with a good D-Pad) for me. Many gamepads have really bad D-Pads though (See: 360 controller.)

Despite that, I still prefer using a gamepad over the keyboard. Only because I'm accustomed to a gamepad for fighting games.

Probably more precise.. I think the really I wouldn't like it keeping track of the right keys in mash of other keys. I used keyboards a good deal playing a bunch of 2D fighting games.

It definitely takes some getting used to. Doing complex directional inputs takes some practice if you're just starting out.
