In case you haven't noticed, there's an upcoming Legend of Heroes game done by Falcom (not Namco; the series is owned by Falcom). At the end of March, the RPG will be released for the PSP. This is the predecessor to the first PSP game to use two UMD discs. So how long is the game? The original game included over 1.5 million Japanese characters. The localization was a huge ordeal, but x seed is finally finished (timing the release to ensure it doesn't conflict with Ys sales).

So there's an absolutely massive JRPG on the horizon for the PSP. The game is the first part in what is primarily a 2 part story (the 3rd game is more of an epilogue), both of which should be released for the PSP (or maybe the NGP?) It's a strategy oriented JRPG (not quite an SRPG), and from what I've seen, it's fairly challenging.

Sometimes I wonder if I should just sell my PS3 or 360 & get a DS & PSP instead. All the great sprite based games, especially jRPGs, are on handhelds.

Why not just buy a DS and a PSP? they are cheap now.

I'll probably buy Disgaea 4, but I haven't got 3 yet because eighty dollars worth (AUS) of DLC is daunting.

Only just bought a PS3, PS2 & 20 games a month back & I'm about to start University. I'm a bit strapped for cash.

Surprised you are even looking forward to this game

Anyway, Xseed is one of my top favorite publishers for bring Ys and this series over, I hope they gain enough sales to continue to publish Falcom games.

Because I don't recall you have shown any interest in any falcom games ever and anything not made by SE or Valkryie Chronicles(No offense). Even when you made lists of rpgs you were looking forward to none of their games were on you list.

Now all of a sudden just recently you started to mention it as if you just now heard of it lol

I heard the music to Legend of Heroes VI: Sora no Kiseki and loved it. Not sure how good the game is though. I tried one of the earlier Legend of Heroes games (I think it was Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch) and it just seemed like a fairly standard turn-based JRPG to me. I do like Nihon Falcom's action RPGs though, like Ys and Dragon Slayer.

Namco butchered the PSP ports(Which are nothing like the PC version) of the earlier Legend of Heroes games that came to US. Falcom ported the rest of the series themselves and made sure it stayed pretty much exactly like the PC versions. So I'd give these games a chance at least, because of that.

Actually, I've had my eye on Ys I & II and Trails in the Sky for a while now. But as far as the games being something truly amazing, well, I don't think they'll reach quite that far. My interest in upcoming SE games (which isn't as high as it was for FFXIII and T3B, which were both disappointments for me) and Valkyria Chronicles is more symptomatic of the state of the Japanese industry than being a SE or Valkyria Chronicles fanboy.

Really it depends on what you look for in those games, I definitely wouldn't pick up any YS games for stories, but gamplay and music wise, they are amazing.

I hear nothing but praise for the legend of heroes games in all catogories, but then again could just be people who exaggerate or fans of the games.

and that's cool, have you imported VC3 or decided to wait for a US release? I'd like to know how the game is

It's not releasing until the end of march, so no. But it should be a good RPG.

For me, "amazing" has to include a great plot. But I'm sure the Ys games are great and I'm looking forward to playing them.

I had considered importing VC3, but I decided against it. Japanese PSP games are very expensive and the cost of shipping is high. I'll wait until the US release.

It really depends on the game, like I said I wouldn't look to YS games for amazing stories nor would I even criticize the stories for not being amazing, since that isn't the main focus of the series.

It can be amazing in it's own right, but I wouldn't even really put it up against some of the more story focused rpgs, because it's really not fair at all.

Wow, very interesting. Didn't know it was such a big game. I'll give it a looksie when it comes out and probably get it at some point.

Finally got back into Ys Seven last night, and I'm enjoying it greatly.

Well, truth be told none of Falcoms games have AMAZING plots. If anything the plots in the Legend of Heroes games are comparable to Tales plots (and told a bit better from what I hear (in the PC versions that is)). That said I wouldnt consider any plot in their main Ys games or LoH games bad. Id say all are decent aswell as well told.

Gameplay and music seems to be where Falcom excells in and honestly they do it so well that I hardly mind the passable plots.

That said, I used to post regularly at a Falcom forum and the users had almost nothing but nice things to say about the LoH series (excluding 1-2, which where the most bare bones iterations). Trails in the Sky trilogy definitely got the most praise for being their best game to date but the Gagharv Trilogy (LoH III-V) also gets alot of praise aswell. Most of the users have played the proper PC versions instead of the PSP ports.

This is a port from Falcom themselves (the original developer). Not a port from Namco Bandai (Legend of Heroes III-VI PSP ports) or Konami (YS VI PSP port).

The Japanese versions had very brief load times, Im sure the localized versions will be the same.

I've been looking forward to it, I keep hearing that the third (I think) was supposed to be the best, but I should support them all the way through if I want to see that I guess. :p
