Invictus week

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Original post:

Quite a hilarious video by Youtube channel Techlinked regarding the state of Star Citizen. I have forgotten all about the game but as usual the game somehow able to stay in the minds of gamers with unexpected coverages.

Surprisingly (for me at least), star citizen actually now have playable demos where players now able to ride spaceship and just gawk at scenery, brilliant news for donators. Hmm, I am very sure you can do that in many other games but, congratulations?

*For those who don't know, Star Citizen is ongoing crowd funded game (reaching over $360m as now) funded by PC beggars. Apparently Hermits much rather funds a now decade old vaporware than buys video game. No wonder they can get pretty cranky when engaged.

Oh look, another Youtuber with an opinion.

Anyway, It's pretty amazing even in it's alpha state, and frankly runs circles around most AAA releases despite being unfinished. I've played more Star Citizen and had more fun with it this week than I have with, for example, Days Gone.

In many ways, I'd rather see projects like Star Citizen take their sweet time than see 10 garbage AAA releases. It's an independently-developed game partially funded by a community of passionate gamers that want a serious space sim; I find it admirable, and while still in alpha, the tech and gameplay is simply stunning.

I do wish they'd release it but as it is right now, I have way too many games to play. I can take my time. And for the record, it's only cost me 40 dollars so far. Not everyone spends 2000 dollars on their PC, not everyone that plays SC spends 10,000 dollars on ships.

Well, I said my piece...preparing for accusations of fanboy beggar race in 3....2....1....

Collect 5 million per year from rubes. Pay youtubers $200k/yr to promote it. Pay developers $1 million per year to work on....something. Keep profiting.

Spot on, the game somehow will pop up in your youtube feed eventually even if you have no interest in it. So many coverage for a game not even in Beta, just let them finish something then talk.

Other than saying at the start the game would release in about 5 years. Have they given another release date? It's a solid question of when. I think the backers deserve to have an idea. Even a timeline of what stages of Alpha and Beta they are in, have they even given that?

This 100%. Iv gotten more hours out of SC in its alpha state than most AAA games today. It already has more going for it than most space sims ever made, I haven't had as much fun in a space sim since X3 and SC keeps getting better. £35 it cost me, that's less than $50 for both SC and SQ42 and have an early adopter gold ticket account to boot.

As I said several years ago, I'll check it out when it's done, whenever / if that ever happens.

I'm interested in a huge space sim (though not a lot, I must admit). But I have zero interest in giving someone money for an unfinished product with no end in sight.

I think it's pretty cool that you can kickstart such a project and make it a reality. But I personally want no part of it. If that means we'll never see a game like Star Citizen, so be it. I'd rather have a AAA studio do something like that, so we know we'll have a finished game at some point.

Actually, **** kickstarter altoghether. I never have and never will support it. Can't afford making a game? Then don't. Stop begging me for money.

I could enlighten you though i doubt it would make much of a difference. You've been spewing the3 same scam citizen crap for long enough now I doubt ill change that. You're only interested in it failing. Go watch some more videos if you're really interested (we both know you're not).

Yesterday I made some cargo runs. I felt like relaxing so I just put on a podcast and flew my Freelancer (basically a modest "space truck") around and did some contracted cargo runs for an hour or so.

This morning I raided a drug manufacturing operation. Hopped in to my Sabre and flew to a moon orbiting one of the main larger planets. On the way I equipped my heavy armor, SMG, sniper rifle, and some grenades. I orbited the base and took out a couple turrets before landing. I hopped out of my ship and then went into the base and down the cargo elevator. Once inside I took out the enemies and blew up all the drugs.

And of course it is Invictus Week, aka "Fleet Week", so they have all the ships available to try out for free. In fact I think you can install the game for free and give it a try yourself if you want :D

Both good games. E:D just came out with an expansion that lets you get out on foot, it is pretty cool. Still not as fun as Star Citizen (for me at least), but it is a finished game at least and still very good.

X4 is also pretty fun, but has a very steep learning curve and is quite quirky. But it's still pretty great.

Does anyone play EVE Online? I'm looking for a new MMO and this one looks kind of good. I'm curious how it has changed because I tried it out for a few days like ten years ago.

scale=/good game.

technically it's impressive, but this doesnt mean the gameplay is solid scale has nothing to do with the actual gameplay mechanics.

In the spirit of this game, you just need to build a spaceship and travel close to lightspeed so that time dilates.

What about if in 300 years, they send two copies toward each other at just over half the speed of light. Got to be peanuts by then, right? Their relative speeds exceed light on collision and bam, time dilates and davillain gets to play SC.

We should probably leave them a note or something.

Isn't every game, by whatever logic you're using?

  • Doom? Fetch the keys, move to next area.
  • Days Gone? Fetch supplies, heal your "brother", fetch more supplies, repair your bike, etc.
  • Cyberpunk? Fetch hacking stuff, fetch kidnapped person, fetch money....repeat.
  • God of War? Fetch your "boy", throw axe, fetch your axe, throw axe, fetch your axe,, throw axe, fetch your axe...

Now, I would never be so cynical because I'm not a petty little twerp and I want to look at things for their good qualities and not just their bad ones, but if you want to that's fine with me.

I have never played it, but have seen hours of gameplay vids. I love how seamless everything is, from ship interiors to planet surface, space, etc.

I really hope 9th gen consoles end up getting a version once/if it gets released. A console version would be a day one to me.
