"Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained. If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained. While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained."

We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly and efficiently as practicable.Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID.
If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained. For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email, telephone, and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive information. Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email, asking for your credit card number, social security number or other personally identifiable information. If you are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the entity asking. When the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services are fully restored, we strongly recommend that you log on and change your password. Additionally, if you use your PlayStation Network or Qriocity user name or password for other unrelated services or accounts, we strongly recommend that you change them, as well. Sony
If that truely is the case, I'm glad they took the service down before any more damage could be done. Yes, its an inconveniance, but completly nessessary

if 2 many things are compromised then this is the beginning of the end but like a dude on the site said, at least the light is at the end of the tunnel for some peopleeboyisherethat light? yeah, it's prolly a train.
So for the time being, let's put aside the apologist attitudes as well as the fanboy need to kick people when they're down. This is kind of big deal. I hope this serves as a PSA to take whatever steps you need to protect your info.... change un/pwd info on email accounts you may have associated with your PSN account. Take care of your CC info.
Hope it doesn't affect too many people too badly.
you see what bad manners get you sony? you see!

bad manners how? where you pulling this one from..
Just cause they dont pander to groups like Anon is a bad thing? These people are just digging themselves a bigger hole even if they arent involved they are gonna be brought into the loop and blamed since they publicly declared "war" on sony.Mind you thats the logic of the basement dweller anyway.
So can someone explain to me how this is the same thing as some users not being able to log onto XBL in 2007 because the system was overloaded with new users? I mean for crying out loud Sony is saying all your personal info has been stolen. I am flipping mad now cause my info is stolen also."Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. @Justin McElroy Your personal data and (maybe) credit card info were stolen and Sony didn't tell you for a week. The console wars are over. --- I am a multi-console owner, but I primarily play on PS3, but I totally agree with Justin McElroys statement.MethodManFTW
You got a point! That's pretty unacceptable. Then again, they probably thought they could secure everything much more quickly than they did.
Interesting turn of events, still no confirmation that any CC information has been compromised but Sony is stating it's a very real possibility. There is far too much information we are not privy too "For obvious reasons" for us to form a real conclusion on the scenario.
I'll continue to moniter my CC activity but without my security number and experation date I'm not sure how much they could do with that information.
*edit*
Oh and I am prepared to lulz at all the rage Sony is going to get about this, they themselves probably didn't get real information on what happened for some time after they took PSN down. Also epic lulz to people who will start championing the hackers again for this lovely display of "Support"

its a quote from a reese witherspoon movie called freeway...oh and the bad manners were against Hotz.
I don't think I used real info so its just my cc info that may be compromised, but thats easy enough to fix. 110million
is it tho?
There's no excuse for this at all, no matter how you rationalize it. If Credit/Debit Cards were compromised, I and many others will be angry. They could have let public know of this a lot sooner.

I mean for crying out loud Sony is saying all your personal info has been stolen. I am flipping mad now cause my info is stolen also. Yeah I'm pretty mad too. These hackers suck. It's becoming ridiculous. I'm in IT and almost everyday I read about how this or that company or website has been hacked and info stolen. This is the first time it's ever effected me so I've typically shrugged it off. I'm sick of it though."Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. 1. PSN goes down - anon claim responsibilty - Sony says its maintence thats why its down. Anon apologises and say they won't do it again, and it was the wrong tactic. 2. PSN goes back up and then goes down again - Sony says it was because of the earthquake. 3. PSN stays down, Sony changes its story and says it was because of an "intrusion", anon get blamed. 4. PSN still down, turns out Sony has known for a week that its been hacked, not by anon, and that credit card details may have been stolen but haven't told anyone. Yep keep blaming anon for this situation ....[QUOTE="Floppy_Jim"]
Quick, everyone! Use this!

I'm guessing the latest is actually the case and they have procrastinated the past week in telling people because they wanted to get it back online so people would shut up. Probably ran out of BS reasons and are forced to tell the truth
