Hi all

As the title suggests im not sure what to do between upgrading my PC and buying some games for it or to stay on the 360 and get some games for that.

My PC specs are AMD Athlon 3000+, 1 gig of ram, ATI X600 PCI-E 128MB DDR, 80 GIG Hard disk on 5200RPM, and the rest is usual onboard sound and stuff, CD RW and DVD ROM Drives.

Im looking at playing First Person shoot em ups, strategy games, management games, racing games and just all sorts really.

Im worried that the cost of 360 games with the extra content would be too much and that if it breaks down I will have to fork out a more money to get it fixed and such.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Lol, the games are just the same cost as a 360 though arent they? Also the Wii seems to be more of a party console than single player or online?

no, theyre actually 10 dollars cheaper than the 360. there are a lot of single player games on the wii like twilight princess and the newly released super paper mario. Nintento is also taking an initiative with online with games such as pokemon and battalion wars

All arguments of specs aside, if you're looking for shooters and strategy games, PC is the undisputed king, in terms of the interface and the range of games available, especially if you're looking for online multiplayer. Racing games in my opinion are better suited to a console, but there are several excellent PC racers around. To be honest, I'm not really sure what you mean by 'management' games, I'm guessing stuff like Sim-City, Theme Park and whatnot, I could be completely wrong though.

I'd say PC personally, but it's up to you in the end.

Cool, well thats the sort of stuff im looing at, football manager, sim city, civilization etc, what would you recomend me add to system if you dont mind me asking? I have put FEAR demo on the pc and it took about 5 minutes to get to actually playing from first launch up and its like 3 minutes for Command and Conquer 3 to load up into skirmish on the demo which is pretty slow. I think the graphics is ok for now but not sure about the rest

if you go a new graphics card, say something like a 7900gs/x1900gt you could run new game pretty well and an extra gig of ram could also make a big difference, you cpu is still ok for new games.  that upgrade could be had for about $200

Since you like strategy and fps pc is the way to go and pc gets all the major sport and racing games as well

Wait until ATI releases its cards to upgrade your PC.

There will be a MIGHTY slump in prices then.

RAM is actually quite cheap now.

I was going to buy an 8800 GTS and I bought the GeOW 360 premium pack, Dead Rising, and a VGA cable instead (though trading in my original Xbox).

Worth it :)

Cool, I think I will wait for the graphics, I have seen RAM and hard disk cheapish so will get them as the hard disk is £40 for 250 gig SATA drive, plenty of space on it then lol

Since you live in UK as I...I can tell you only one thing: PC games cost £24 at day of release while the cheapest new 360 games you can find go at £40...

Thats £15 saved on EACH game....with just 12 games you save £180... Which is the equivalent of a 8800GTS http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/PCI-E/nVIDIA+GeForce+8+Series/+Albatron+GeForce+8800GTS+320MB+PCI-E?productId=26476

PC is the way to go in UK and in EU in general...

Wait until after summer so you can build up some cash reserves and wait for the newer DX10 hardware to get cheaper.

Wait until about May when ATI releases there DX10 cards. Then the 8800GTS prices will drop. It's already at $250 on newegg. Probably will be around $200 by then.

I think you should stick with the 360. There are a lot of games this year and next for the 360 that include RTS, FPS, light sims, etc.

Sorry, you're not going to get a flight sim on a console. Not a real sim, anyway. But yes, from what the OP has responded, he should probably get a 360 rather than a PC. It seems to suit him more. But the point stands you're not going to get a flight sim on a console...not enough keys. IL2: Sturmovik uses my whole keyboard, plus ALT+the whole keyboard and CTRL+half the keyboard combinations for lesser used controls like setting bombsites, fire extinguisher, engine select, turbocharger, magnetos (only really need magnetos when you start the engine and when you climb above 5,000 meters...can use magnetos to shut the engine INSTANTLY as well). I have fuel mix on SHIFT+1-9 and Blade Pitch on ALT+1-9. Fire Extinguisher on CTRL+F and Feather Prop on ALT+F. Gear toggle is G, but ALT+G is lower gear by hand crank. B is toe brake and ALT+B is air brake. Yeah it's over 300 key commands, but I know them all without thinking about them. The thought of cramming that onto a console, and playing without TrackIR besides (TrackIR tracks your head movement with a webcam). And no dual-monitor on consoles. Dag dangit, I got off topic. TC...get the 360 man, it's for you. Just because I don't want one doesn't mean you shouldn't have one.

I dunno, the games on PC are pretty much cheaper at the moment than 360 over in the UK (GRAW 1 is £6.99 on the PC currently, its like £20 in 360) but at least I know it will work straight off (well technically it should do lol). I do have a 360 its just I dunno whether to buy games for that or upgrade the PC.

Cheers for suggestions :)

I'd say PC, lookin' at the games you wanna play it's the perfect platform. Further the 360 is(to me at least) a very dissappointing console it just keeps on giving trouble.

If your talking about RTS type games I'd stick with the PC unless you are willing to play with the controller. Personally I wouldn't.
