The majority...I will go as far as to say vast majority of us on these boards live in the U.S./North America. If we are going to make an issue of sales, and we do, we also must look at the impact they will have on us. MS and Sony each have divisions/headquarters in the 3 major territories (Japan, NA, Europe). Personally I love seeing the 360, my console of choice, doing best in my home territory because as they have been, MS will continue to give their most support to America. Unfortunately the same cant be said about the PS3, which stumbled through January in NA to say the least. This pattern of 360 dominating in NA while PS3 dominates in Japan and its fairly even in Europe has been going on for a long time. That is why we are seeing great games geared toward what Americans like such as Mass Effect, Dead Rising 2, Splinter Cell Conviction and Halo Reach released on the 360 this year and games like Modnation Racer coming out for the PS3

This mentality is what gives Americans the stereotype of caring only about the US.

They are important, but you should also care about sales outside of your borders.

LOl agreed Im from the UK have both consoles, and i love both western and Eastern games , in recent times though I have preferred Western games over eastern games particularly RPG's

but then a game like The Last Guardian comes along with that uniquely special quality about it and then I realise that Im a huge fan of japanese games as well

Canada FTW! Seriously NPD should include Canada. I don't think its much trouble at all. Also I hate the mentality of releasing games like you mentioned. It's because of people like you that I can only play Tales of Vesperia in japanese  Demon's souls could have been unreleased in NA as well.

Why should we only care about America when the majority of games are sold in the rest of the world? American sales can be misleading. Sometimes the bigger picture is very different.

I think the only region you could really argue that doesn't matter is Japan due to their reluctancy to purchase western games which have become the larger focus of this generation, which results in most developers not caring about eastern userbases due to them having little impact sales wise on software

I find many Americans to be completely different from teh stereotypes, so no apology is necessary. Unfortunately you do get the odd few (I live in Niagara, right on the US/Canada border), but that can be said for every nation.

Um... no? These are international companies operating on a global sale, so no, one area does not matter over others like that. And it's just another reason why Americans think they are better than everyone else for some reason. You're just trying to justify the fact that 360 sells better in NA so we should only care about that... I mean honestly, come on now...

I don't think all of America supports the 360; in fact, there are alot of countries that support other systems. For example, in Panama (excluding the wii), the ps3 outsells the 360 and I think other countries in America also support the ps3 more than the 360. But, I must admit that the 360 gets an excellent support there in U.S. and Canada.

What you said has very little to do with my argument, but looking at those 30 million owners only 34 titles have passed a million in sales on the DS in Japan, and the majority of them are created by a few publishers so very few developers are seeing substantial sales from that region.

Sales are important. If Halo Combat Evloved didn't sell there probably wouldn't be a 360. If Final Fantasy I didn't sell Square wouldn't be around today. If the Playstation brand wasn't so strong the PS3 wouldn't have survived past 2007.

Sales influence everything.

Not really, because despite what anyone says, most people want to play whatever their friends are playing. As a salesperson, I have seen it a thousand times. People want what everyone else wants. Yes, worldwide is important to the companies that sell the hardware. But when it comes down to it, the games and support we get in one region are based on sales in that region. Thats why Sony could get a FF exclusive deal in Japan, but there is no way Square would give them one here., etc. etc. And I would like to play with the highest percent of people I personally know. Which, now that I think about it is a big win for the 360. I only know one PS3 gamer, and he is intimidated about gaming online. But I totally get why a person in Japan would want a Playstation.

Not a good mentality.

Nobody should "care" about sales at all. That is unless you've invested some stock in any of the said companies and or have some similar connection that is detrimental financially. Regardless, all sales matter. Even if it's for fun.

Firstly, I'm an American and proud of it! And I know that sales in the US directly effect my gaming experience potential. Having said that, worldwide sales are important as well. Not just for gamers in other markets, but it could trickle down and effect me and my fellow Americans.

So, I'll have to disagree with this attitude.

my same thoughts exactly, double good job TC.

Can't help but shake at my head at the bigheaded assumption TC made. There's a lot of people of different nationality here.

[QUOTE="TBoogy"][QUOTE="mgkennedy5"]Um... no? These are international companies operating on a global sale, so no, one area does not matter over others like that. And it's just another reason why Americans think they are better than everyone else for some reason. You're just trying to justify the fact that 360 sells better in NA so we should only care about that... I mean honestly, come on now...2mrw
I didn't get that from his post at all. I just saw him try to explain why he thinks certain types of games are released on certain systems. It was really not that far fetched.

he says profits, losses come from the sum of all sales around the globe, selecting one area only matter for those who wants to claim ownage.

I am only referring to his opening post. Not sure what he may have said since then.
