Heres is some good news, in Japan Sony confirmed games to cost almost 20 to 40% less on PSN than the retail version and looks like Sony is going to do the same thing in US/Canada also, Sony havent yet completly confirmed this to the public outside of Japan but they did mention that game prices in both PSN and at retail will be announced very soon.

PSN purchases here we go! :D

I think doing this will be a very smart move and if they work it right by advertising the PS3 on the Vita's PSN store it will not only attract people to PSN store and make purchases it will even attract more towards the HD console.

Thoughts? good idea or bad idea?

I guess those cheaper psn prices will be eaten up by the cost of that memory card you have to buy to store them on, am i right?

They're making up whatever they lose $ wise with those high memory card prices and by making their own memory card rather than paying fee's for using another company's card (SanDisk)

Thats about 10% of a game. XD But I just think that they are trying to get people to buy in their memory card market or something.

The cost may be balanced out, for the money you save on the game you'll be paying for the memory cards.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss is around 3 GB in size to download from the store.

With a 32 GB card you could fit around 10 games onto it before you have to buy a new one.

I assume games will get larger with time.

Awesome if Sony goes through with it. Digital distribution needs to be price competitive (like Steam) to be worthwhile.

Who cares about retail stores? You think Gamestop is going to be affected by this? Its only the VITA games anyways, they still got nintendo, 360, PS3 games to sell

lol skype on the go. You better be getting the 3G version then or you can count skype on the go as out of the picture. Glad I have a smartphone to do all that other stuff you listed so it keeps my Vita memory card free to use for games only.

And a billion dollar business that provides jobs to a lot of people? Overall this is a good idea by Sony...considering they will make you pay $100+ for a 32gb proprietary memory stick they better discount the games that will fill it up fast.

Good news. If I want a Vita game right when it comes out, I'll get it on PSN.

Unfortunately the prices will probably be slow to drop, so later on it will be a better deal to get them at retail/used.

Most games are 2~4GB I think. I think I saw Uncharted was around 2800MB, and the biggest game was Blazblue at around 3300MB. Games like Ridge Racer were 600MB. Everybody's Golf was around 1800MB. I'm sure the full list is out there somewhere. Anyway, this is great news. I still wonder if it can compete with B&M stores though -- prices drop really fast these days. I wonder if it can keep up, like Steam can.

I think its a win-win for gamers. It's not like the retail option will cease to exist.

Albeit the mem sticks are pretty expensive but this really "helps" recoup the losses.

You can backup any files on your memory card with their PS Vita program for your PC, and copy them over and such as many times as needed. Just like the PSP.

smart move by sony

getting people to swing towards the DD copies of their games will save them money by saving on materials to produce hard copies of games...while gaining money by people buying their over priced memory cards

i will probably get hard copies of certain games and DD copies of others i don't really care to display on my shelf

but...until i can find a 32gb memory card for around $30 (whether it be on ebay or where ever) then i will not be buying the vita

It will be interesting to see the reaction to this from third party developers who get nothing from the memory card sales.

Half of the blame belongs to the publishers. Maybe if they stopped incentivizing people to buy games there with exclusive gamestop dlc and whatnot, they wouldn't be the 800 pound gorilla they are today.
