Joystiq

Didn't see this posted yet, so if it is. Please Don't Hurt Me =(......Anyways, it seems all systems are getting User-Created Content for Portal 2, I love Valve. On the other hand from reading the blog, the content may not be distributed the same way across all platforms. "Depending on the platform you're on, I should say, will depend on how we're delivering it," Faliszek said, also confirming that the PS3 version would get user-created content via Steam-works- (*fixed) for PS3.

So this Means:

PC - Gets Mod Tools in Order to Create Said UCC and We are allowed to eat our own fruits. No Duh...

PS3 - Gets to eat some of the fruits of UCC created by the PC Community.

360 - Same as PS3 but I would think it would be a much lower amount of UCC and since Microsoft isn't very kind, I am expecting a price for the fruits.

(Which is odd because the work was done by the PC Community for the purpose of people's enjoyment and for free. Micrsoft cannot and should not, proft off the work of PC Modders, so idk...)

It will probably be similar to in TF2 how Valve takes some community maps and makes official maps with patches.

most likely it will be similar to what Valve does with TF2. Where they choose high quality user created maps and then makes them official. I seriously doubt they will let you just take any map from the PC version and port it to the consoles, especially if the 360 is involved.

This was supposed to be the case with Dragon Age Origins as well but it never worked out. Hopefully Valve can work things out with the first parties. Sony shouldn't be difficult since PS3 Portal 2 already uses Steamworks.

Xbox will either allow some of the content for free, or not at all. the moment money is involved in MODS things get very tricky, legally speaking.

I expect for it to work like this:

PC gets everything right way, as usual.

PS3 will get some of it, for free, with a delay.

Xbox 360 will either get nothing, or only a few screened ones for free, with a delay.

IMHO of course.

The other possibility is that Valve grabs some fo the best content, screens it, works out a deal with the modders involved and jumps through a few other legal hurdles, then releases that, for free, or possibly for a price on the consoles.

I never understood what MS had against free DLC from Valve. It's not like it's their game, or anything.

It is their marketplace..if they can get a profit out of it...they are going to do it.

which is great no doubt, but Im sure that they will eventually run into the same issue TF2 did. The requirements for TF2 have shot up since the game has come out due to the new content being a lot more recource heavy then the old stuff.

A profit off making the game un-vanilla is a little slimy. I suppose it would cost money to host the DLC, though.

Wasn't BC1's Conquest update free on all platforms? Why would adding Payload to 360 TF2 be any different :?.

EA manages to pump out their own updates for sports games and some of their other games. How is it that they can get away with this but not other companies?

Edit: Didn't realise the message above directly reflects what I said...

oooo...that is very true. Umm?? Well maybe, seeing as the PS3 is now more open-friendly, I would assume modders would create a smaller PS3 version just for the sake of having their names more in the public.

I think EA complained about Microsoft's closeness early on in the Gen and seeing as a console NEEDS to have EA in order to stay a live, Microsoft opened up and allowed EA to connect their 360 games directly to EA Servers. I Think?

Valve doesn't make all the best maps "official" on TF2 for some reason.

You mean for consoles? Because I think they've got plenty of the good PC ones covered.

You mean like the mappacks for GEOW epic wanted to offer free but MS forced them to add a pricetag to them?

You mean like the DLC from Valve for LFD1/2 pc users got for free but you had to pay for on the 360?

Yeah sure it's not MS's fault
