The big thing we’re excited about bringing to console are mods. We’re going to be an open game. We’re gonna take mods from the PC and bring them over to PlayStation 3, and help their developers polish them up. There might even be a way for mod makers to make some money here, because they can sell it through the PlayStation network…

And Marketplace?

Mark Rein: We hope so. You know, that’s why we’ve been delayed so long in announcing on Xbox 360, because we were kind of busy with Gears, and it took us a while to get a really positive indication from Microsoft that, yes, we’ll be able to do something like that there as well. We’re excited about that.

Mods are the lifeblood of this game, and part of the reason we delayed announcing the 360 is because UT without mods is half a UT. The mod guys do such an amazing job, and this time we also want to find a way that they can sell their wares if they’re good enough.

We’ll see…it’s still a pipe dream, but I’m confident that we’ll accomplish it in this generation.

GREAT NEWS FOR CONSOLE GAMERS!

Most mods suck anyway and they take years to develop into something good.

There's tons of good mods out there, heck, I bought some games just for mods.

1. Pipe dream
2. It says that you have to pay for them. I quote ' modders could make money by selling them on PSN'

So no, dream on.

Hidden is amazing, there is nnothing like it on the market but my skills as Hidden are lacking, battle grounds is alot of fun I tend to be a fool and reload whilst an angry brit is charging at me with his blade, along with source forts and Pirates, Knights and vikings. Goldeneye Source isn't too bad niether.

I can't wait for Black Mesa: Source and Perfect Dark: Source. Oh, and will Black Mesa have online?

Hehe, I also like spamming the "he is one ugly mother. . . ." taunt in Hidden. :P Btw, Battlefield 2 has a great modding community too, good released mods would be Operation Peacekeeper, Point of Existence 2, and Project Reality. And have you checked out Resistance & Liberation and Insurgency for Hl2 yet?

they said the same about Counterstrike, Morrowind and Oblivion. the architectures are too diffrent, the mods would have to be totally rebuilt. so either mod teams would have to get dev-kits for free, or Sony and MS would have to release free ps3 and 360 emulators. without it epic would be the one doing all the porting, which means you would see commercial version of few mods there, not original ones plus of course.... Source is still going strong and it doesn't look like ut3 will get as much mod support as ut2003/4 did

There are too many legal issues for epic to bother getting mods onto PSN and XBOX live.

Good stuff I suppose. I still play some Mods on UT2K4 and Civ 4. Even The Sims 2 has some decent mods out there, and thats not even getting into WoW, which if you're playing end game, you need.

In WOW you have addons to custumize your UI and your UI only, this should not be mistaken with mods.

With "mods" he probably means user created maps as this is the only thing that does not require porting code. And even this is questionable if it will see the day of light. But this would be a big step forward.

Ummmm....read the OP bud. IT'S UNCONFIRMED. IT'S A PIPE DREAM. Why can't people read nowadays? I really doubt it will ever see the light of day, just as it was for Oblivion and other games. Not to mention you have to PAY for the mods, which is laughable. I doubt many mod makers will take the time to port their game or content/tweaks over to the console versions. They would have to re-write all the code and everything.

What about PES6? It has smth like 50% of licences missing...To get them you either install a modchip or play London Blue (Chelsea) vs Merseeyside Red (Liverpool)...

I should have said very few Mods are as good as the original game they are running on. Anyway mods do take a year or more at least to get to the point where they become stable with less problems like bugs and glitches.

neo tfc > vanilla tfc
tfc itself is a mod though anyways

The Specialist is a pretty badass mod of hl... i wouldnt say its better or worse... but its better clearly in terms of content.. same for Desert Crisis
and real total conversions dont just take "over a year" they can take even longer than real games since theyre amateurs... like 3-4 yrs... but something like
Kung Fu Max Payne... one guy did alone in like 6 months... and thats cooler than just regular max payne

mods are essential to replay value
i mean online is a start, but if the game gets tedious, mods spicen it up
and no... this is why consoles will never be as bad ass as pcs... with mods you can CONTRIBUTE to a game in development... support it with your help, ideas, concepts...

GREAT NEWS FOR CONSOLE GAMERS!

so your going to create them?

Mods are nice but not necessary imo. I can't think of one good console game that needed mods.Spartan070
