A lot of people in System Wars thinks Home is useless and the content is overpriced.

I agree. However, it is used as a pure cash grab for Sony. It costs Sony hardly anything to digitally distribute stupid looking clothes to the characters in Home. Only stupid people or people who like to blow their moeny on something useless would ever go for this. I think these same stupid people are the ones paying for XBOX Live. We all know how much money MicrosSoft is making off Live subscriptions. The only difference is that you can "enjoy" Home for absolutely free if you wish, while on the other hand, you HAVE to pay MicroSoft money just to PLAY A GAME online.

Stop bending over for these corporations.

Microsoft should just have a standard online system like PSN (which has hardly any lag, it IS as good as XBOX Live, don't believe fanboys) to play games online, and if you want all those stupid Avatars, the "amazing" skill matching system, early access to demos or whatever, THEN you can pay.

That way only some people would buy the subscriptions, and MicroSoft would still make money.

Also, if MicroSoft at the very least had a stripped down version that was free, and only offered online play, it would create competition for Sony. It would force them to add features (rip them off of XBOX Live, of course) at a much faster rate than they are. But since XBOX Live is costly, Sony probably figures it has a strong enough upper hand being the free online service that cheap (or realistic) gamers will turn to.

In the long run MicroSoft charging for XBOX Live is hurting more than just MicroSofts own users.

No. Nothing alike.

You pay for Xbox Live to play games online. Games like Halo, Gears 2, Fable.

You pay for crappy thigns on Home just to looh slightly different to the others.

HOME is pointless, so paying for it is. Xbox Live is almost essential, as is paying for it.

Someone missed the point.

Both are ways of milking stupid people. As essential as playing online is, there is no reason for it to cost any money at all. that was my point. If Billy already bought an XBOX, and XBOX Live should be part of that experience, should he have to pay again? (and again, and again) If you want something extra, like alot of the features on XBOX live like avatars, then sure Microsoft can Charge you. Extra clothes in Home add nothing "essential" to your experience so they are extra luxuries. (on top of the luxy costs gaming has already).

Your point was shadowed by the fact you called Xbox Live users as stupid as people who buy virtual t-shirts for home. When in fact they're nothing alike. Paying for Home =/= Paying for Live. Live isn't milkage, no one is forcing you to pay for it. I have an Xbox, and don't have a Gold Membership. Cows have no choice, they are milked whenever there owner sees fit. Xbox Live users simply pay for what they want/need, when they want/need it.

How are Cows milked at all? (LOL I just read that)

after buying a $400 PS3 and a game, there are no further charges preventing you from fully enjoying any game (unless you want another controller for splitscreen)

I don't like to think of myself as a fanboy (have a PS3 and Wii, Brother has 360) but Microsoft is the master of milkage. After buying your exbox and game, you might need a wifi adapter. You need your XBOX Live subsciption. It is recommended you buy a battery charge kit (AA batteries are expensive). I agree Microsoft can knock themselves out charging for Gold. However, the free silver accounts SHOULD include online play at its most basic. ESPECIALLY considering how many games this generation would be MUCH worse. without their multiplayer.

I meant REAL cows. Besides, last i checked Cows still have to pay for games ... unless they don't want/need them either.

That's the thing with choice, it's free. No one is forcing anyone to buy anything. No one is milking anyone.

Once again, i'm talking about Real Cows. They are milked when there owners feels like it (Assuming they have some to give)

Calling Xbox Live Milkage would assume MS can take money of me when THEY want. When in fact, i give them money when I want.

MS give you the choice. The choice we deserve. The choice they promised before this gen even started.

Sorry I didn't catch the sarcasm there..

But you still don't get it. This generation I would say that Online play is a need, not a want. especially if your console is connected to the internet.

Since you don't seem to be catching on, I'll give you an analogy to help you. Say you bought a car (XBOX 360). Your car has a very nice air conditioning unit in is. In fact, that is one of the heavily advertised features of your car. (XBOX Live) You then find out you have to pay to use the air conditioner, even though it is already there, to get use out of it you must pay. (XBOX Live subscriptions). And then the PS3 is a car in real life, where the air conditioning works logically, and doesn't tease you.

Wait you are confused, its a choice of two you either pay and play or you dont pay and dont play online. There isnt a 3rd choice. And speaking of MS giving you a choice of two. every business out there gives you this choice. go to pizza hut, you either pay and eat or dont pay and dont eat, or maybe they give you a third option, eat and wash the dishes. in all cases its still better than the XBL offer.

So because your borther has a 360 you don't consider yourself a fanboy. This thread says otherwise.

Why would you NEED to buy a wifi adapter? Last I checked it's ALWAYS better to have it hard wired. Not to mention you could always buy a cheap wireless switch or router instead of buying the one MS is selling.

Why should playing online be free? Doesn't MS have to pay someone for the upkeep of the servers they use? Doesn't MS have to pay for all the updated content and changes they make to live? Let's not forget that PSN is a joke compared to Live.

Seriously, kids are spoiled.

Lets keep to real word situations please :) Xbox Live cost money, it's the premier console gaming servicem it cost money to run. PSN don't cost anything, as it not up to Lives standard. The fact sony don't charge for it dosen't mean it should be free ...

Since when has playing online been a NEED? Some of the best games aren't played online....ie:..Bioshock, MGS4 (no one plays it for it's online) ect.... Unless you're playing WOW or an online only game, online will always be an OPTION.

I'm not a fanboy, I admitted all the extra features of Live are better than PSN, obviously.

And I didn't say online play was more important, but honestly, who plays Halo, Gears, Call of Duty or Left 4 Dead for their single player?

I agree it is stupid that this generation has so many Multiplayer focused games (thank God for MGS4, Assassin's Creed, Bioshock, inFamous, Uncharted, Prince of Persia, etc. for offering strong single players). But if MicroSoft is going to make all their first party and heavily marketed games Multiplayer Focused, how much a choice are they really giving you to pay for XBOX Live? They are denying you part of the experience. PLUS You can buy the downloadable content for even MORE money. Obviously they are choices, but there is a HUGE difference between not buying the new maps for a game and simply not being able to play it online at all because you refuse to pay more than the already ridiculous $60 a game.

Also, PC has much better online (including mods and free content) for FREE. There is no good reason Microsoft should charge for basic online play.

Like I said before, the stuff like Avatar's and advanced matchmaking, hell, even PROFILES. Go ahead make those Gold only. But playing a game of Halo or Gears should only require the Silver account.

And I never said you need a Wifi adapter. But not everybody has the option for a wired connection, Wireless is much more convienient and SHOULD have been built into the elite.

While we're on the subject, don't you hate how Sony only gives you 2 CRAZILY overpriced options if you want to upgrade your hard drive? Oh wait.

BUT.....

Home is free. You don't have to buy clothes or furnish your apartment, they give you standard stuff from the beginning. The places and areas that are sponsored are free. Why are so many down on Home if its a free service that allows you to customize how you like. I've been ordering games from Amazon and got free Home gear (Infamous, Killzone 2). 2 weeks ago Home gave everyone a free place as you own (Enchanted Room).

For some reason people feel that Home is supposed to offer an enhanced gaming launch platform, but in reality its just a place to fart around

The only thing your paying for on XBOX LIVE is Peer to Peer. Its a game console and the main thing for mp is to game online. That alone should not be charged in anyway on a console. I dont care for the party chat and all that hoopla. Also there are the ADS. The freaking annoying ads that companies have paid MS to display. LIVE is a ripoff.

Another example is 1 vs 100. Ask yourself why its FREE with dedicated servers???

the freaking annoying ads? that you can barely notice and do not hinder your abbility to see any thing or do any thing...... why is it free with dedicated servers? because they put money aside for it, and in 3-4 years when that money runs out, sony and the 3rd party developer can say hey! guess what you cant play online any more we are shutting the servers down.

unless you mean 1vs100 ads which are far more numerous and obstrusive then the ad's found elsewhere on xboxlive, and the fact people will be sure to see them unlike others which most users just scroll past.

You missed his point...it's sad when the Tc;s argument is in favor of free xbox-live but you xbox fans would rather pay out the nose for it year after year... You are actingl like the TC was attacking live and he wasn't he just feels like online play should be included in sliver membership and avatars etc which === luxury items should be charged for. It makes perfect sense, I don't see why it's passing over your head so fast? And why so xbox users defend having to pay? Wouldn't you rather have the same features and not have to pay?

Why should playing online be free? Doesn't MS have to pay someone for the upkeep of the servers they use? Doesn't MS have to pay for all the updated content and changes they make to live? Let's not forget that PSN is a joke compared to Live.

Seriously, kids are spoiled.

Have you even used psn? SEriously, for a long period of time? The ONLY thing PSN is lacking is cross game chat....thats it. Cross game chat.... you are paying ms for cross game chat. Really, is Cross game chat...that important? it's not for me. When in a game i don't want to be interupted by joe smoe playing some other game or watching a movie and having Mike Smith calling me the n word while i watch a movie with my girl.... Cross game chat is over rated and not worth the live fees..... it could be something they charged for if they gave it to you for free. PSN is fine and plays perfectly. If you actually use it and not just listen to fanboys who believe all the lies that microsoft media has put in your heads then you will see that psn is actually on the level of live but with out fees and no cross game chat. But instead of cross game chat, there is dedicated servers on most games. How many times can I say Cross Game Chat? lol...

Oh wait.

Cow-Juice

I agree with having to pay for live, its pretty stupid, but M$ isn't really milking, there just forcing people to upgrade to the better version online, its called quality control. Halo 2 probably wouldn't have been the success it was without m$'s TruSkill matchmaking. The features that gold provide are a bit un noticed, like game chat, or truskill. But they could have let people play online for free, but i believe M$ wanted everyoene's online experience to be good, and they also wanted money, forcing people to buy all the extra's to be able to play online succeeded with both.

For some reason people feel that Home is supposed to offer an enhanced gaming launch platform, but in reality its just a place to fart around

De_Bears

That's pretty much because there were a lot of people saying that HOME was going to make PSN better than live.

Remember those days? I laughed a lot.

From this description you have absolutely no idea how cross game chat works.

All of my friends are adults and have their own homes.. Cross game chat is essential when we all get together and everyone has the time to play something.

If you are watching a movie with your girlfriend no one can interrupt you while you are watching it unless you accept a chat request.

Your scenario is totally bogus.

paying for xbl is a joke, you pay for nothing. Online should be free, its free on the PS3 and PC. But you know what its never going to change, I mean why would MS not want your money $$$ seriously ms is never going to make LIVE free. But it should be free, but its never going to happen.

Well then they are taking money from you when you buy a game and not allowed to play online unless you pay for a subscription. ps3 owners get 100% of the content that is on the disk, while 360 owners get only 80% of the content. And then if there is a online only game totally takes 100% of that game away from a person who does not want to pay for a subscription. I can plainly say the biggest reason why I don't want a 360 is the sole reason of having to pay to play online. Its just crazy. And then like a guy like me that work nights and friends work in the day, all of that game invite and stuff does me no good at all. Yea I'll meet joe blow to play with but I can definitly do without game invites/ and matching making. Also if a Room is full, does it make room for you to join with your friend just curious?

Live is the 360's main source of income, no Live fees, no 360s. I think however that it should be free to play online and the fee should be for cross game chat.

It be cool if we could get millions of people to cancel their account on the same day, I'm sure ms would take notice. But if you ask me its never going to happen, it would take a lot for ms to make xbl free. I just dont see it happening any time soon.

That second part was meant to be in the context of the rest of its sentence. I meant for lag. It has equally smooth connections than XBOX Live.

And I don't know about now, but a while ago PSN could handle 15 background downloads at a time and XBOX could only do a few. Have they changed that? Both services are quite different. For example, the PSN Store is MUCH more organized than XBOX Live Marketplace.

I noticed another interesting point up there, XBOX Live has quite a lot of advertisements. PSN only has advertisements in the PSN store (which can actually be helpful to learn of the new content). I find it awful that XBOX users have to put up with ads on their main menu. Especially since they are paying for the service to begin with. I hope they are optionally disabled.

This much I understand, but there is no reason for so many additional fees.

I already payed for my internet, continue to pay my ISP, bought my XBOX, and should I really have to pay even more to use them together?

I know all the money doesn't go to MicroSoft, but they don't need such a large slice of the pie that is my consumer money. Frankly, it is a brilliant idea. They knew that they would be able to get so many to pay even though many people realize what they give you as a service is not on any level worth $50 or whatever they are charging now.

i like wii and psn because well multiplayer functions work , dont force you to pay to play , ,

and with all the down time xbox360 gets , we still dont get our days we dont use xbox live for,

lol for example

you bought a 1 month card but only go on one day, and not the rest, you still lose your subscription ,,

even if theres down time in between ,

this is ms way of ripping us off ,
