Well, unlike Microsoft, Sony is a lot more flexible with how they let Valve manage multi-platform development, hence Steamworks on PS3.

Xbox Live is a very closed service, and Sony is more flexible in regards to updating and the size of updates. The plus side of this is that games on XBL normally are fairly solid since Microsoft are very forthcoming in regards to XBL standards for their games. Notice how the 360 versions of Call of Duty work just fine, where as the other versions have quirks.

That has nothing to do with it. The 360 version was the one they initially developed for. After that Activision (surprise surprise) got cheap and impatient on the porting process.

I think because of such a "failure" PS3 was back then , with high price and "no games". I guess they thought it wouldn't be profitable. I wouldn't know though

Valve acts like a woman scorned. Im guessing one of the suits at MS rubbed them the wrong way.

Plus MS charge for game updates... And steam gets lots of updates so PS3 is the better choice.

Gabe Newell constantly states how he believes how gaming should be a service now. Notably, of course, you have Team Fortress 2 and less so you have Left 4 Dead. However, with Left 4 Dead, Valve didn't want to abandon it like TF2 on the 360, but thanks to Microsoft's strict hold on LIVE, 360 players had to pay money for the DLC. Sony, on the other hand, is letting Valve do the things they want (I'm sure within certain restrictions), but the important thing is that you're seeing all these cool things gamers on the 360 have been wanting. Cross platform play, updates from steam servers (updated same time as the PC, and most likely will be free), access to user made content (though Valve said this was coming to all platforms), and most notably of all, the free PC game coming along side the PS3 edition of the game. Pretty much, Valve's take on gaming sales is providing as many services/benefits as possible to create value for their customers, and they can't work that out on the closed network of LIVE.

Sony is letting Valve put Steamworks on their console. I'd assume that was it.

Probably why PS3 user get a free copy of the PC verison, it gets PS3 users onto Steam on the PC, ends up stop playing the PS3 verison, start buying games.

basicly free money for Valve

PS3 is still difficult to program, but it's open network allows them to use Steamworks which is not possible on Xbox Live. There is no contradiction there.

XBL would still woudl've been harder to incorporate Steamworks in a practical way.

I think its more, MS wants full control and Valve wants Full control, I think Steam works, would be something MS couldnt fully control, because Steam updates can be often, that isnt possible on the 360...so ya it would be harder, so its kinda pointless

They're releasing Steamworks, that's what changed, they'll be able to skirt around the PSN store in distributing DLC and keep more of the revenues, if they do it right they can do this with other publishers, plus by having gamers register their PS3 copies of games like Portal 2 I believe that this will prohibit the PS3 version of Portal 2 from being sold at used game retailers like GameStop since allowing the original owner to retain the PC copy on their Steam account might violate some laws.
