Yeah I agree and MS should listen up though I'd like maybe just a handful of them for use with Natal and a few non VG playing friends & family - I wonder if Valve is working on something really good that's not a party game for Natal.. I really hope so. :)

As an aside, any guesses on what game Rare is bringing to the Natal table ?

Anywho, What ya think ?

The Story

---

Valve is sick of 'sh*tty party games' photo

Valve is looking forward to seeing what people can do with Project Natal, but Left 4 Deadwriter Chet Faliszek has urged developers not to create another mass of crappy mini-game collections like the stinking ocean of filth that drowned the Wii. He also promised that Valve would not be developing anything like that for Natal either.

"Hopefully we've gotten past the point of mini-games," says Faliszek, optimistically."I'm sick of that [makes arm movement]. That's not a game for me anymore. Let's get some real interaction going. We have these technologies now that let us interact in different, really exciting ways. It's developers' jobs to do something with it. Impress me. Don't just make sh*tty games I wouldn't want to play if I had to use a joystick."

And what kind of projects would Valve make? Waggle-flavored Left 4 Dead?: "We'll see. You won't have to make the arm movement of sawing off a zombie's head in some tiresome mini-game. I can promise you that."

The best thing about that article is that Valve said Natal was very cool.

Maybe initially, but we all know they're gonna fail in the long run and no companies will bother much cause the whole install bases have regular controllers.

While I agree there are WAY too many party games out there despite practically little demand (same with on-rail shooters) because developers are too cheap and lazy to make original games....I do have one thought.

Is there really that much difference between party games and online games? I mean, the basic concept is getting a group of people together to have fun. Valve seems to be alla bout online gaming. Just look at left 4 dead which can only be played online. How is that idea really any different than party games which are meant to be enjoyed as part of a group?

Not according to Pachter :P He predicts Natal will outsell the Sony wand 5-1, and that within a year Natal will have sold 10 million ..... but then it is Pachter

Yeah they'll almost definitely both fail, I think Arc or NippleWands as I like to call them, will have more of a chance of getting some proper games than Natal though, I reckon there's going to be a few attempts at proper games from some MS first parties then it'll be resigned to optional secondary features like the six-axis.

I hear ya and I guess I'm leaning towards Vave's kind of party much more then say a Mario Party though I'd like a little bit of that as well but just a little bit and not a flood....

IMO it's going to happen no matter what. I'm not expecting the Sony Wand or Natal to take the Wii's audience, however, they're going to try and if that is the only way they're going to do it.

I agree with them...motion controls have not been utilized all that well this generation. For the most part, you can barely consider the Wiimote (without M+) to be motion controls since it heavily involves a lot of waggling.

They make a good point. The whole novelty thing of motion controls is wearing out fast - at least for people who game as a serious hobby.

Yeah, but really we are talking about Valve's opinion of what constitutes valuable "interactive" games. I actually agree with them, but the sad truth is that there are people buying these crappy mini-games. If there weren't then developers wouldn't keep dumping them on the Wii.

They seem to be making the point that the games SUCK (which is true), but then tie it in with motion control and the whole genre of party games. It wouldn't surprise me if we took any genre of games out there and said "Most action games are trash so people really need to stop making action games!" It doesn't make sense, but that seems to be how he is coming across.

I think his REAL point isn't that he is sick of party games, just sick of all the CRAP out there and the lack of innovation.

Yea thats true. I very skeptical of NATAL, hopefully it can be used well in a few games, but I see it as a whole pile of MS hype and no real substance. I hope I'm wrong, hell knowing me, I'll probably buy it right away so I'm more guilty than MS is. Dammit.

Go Valve, now go get to work on one of your "original" FPS games!!! :P I would think they would also be getting sick of rehashing the L4D series or FPS games in general since that has been all they have ever done.

he just said he was sick of there being too many party games and not enough other types of games.

sort of like when sheep say they are sick of all the FPSes on the HD consoles. They don't hate FPSes, because if they did they wouldn't be defending treyarch whenever a new call of duty is made for Wii. The just don't like the fac that the HD consoles get too many FPSes and not enough of the other genres.

I completely agree with those points. Just hearing my english teacher talking about her Wii games is utterly sickening for me :D

Hopefully Valve can pull something really big out of motion controllers.

what do you mean milking the tf2 series? it's only the 2nd game in the series, and giving out free updates is not mliking, same with l4d and l4d2.

I don't think Natal will be good for something else honestly. But I'm not calling anything Ill wait till it's released. Maybe developers will come out with unique ways to interact with the game. We will see.

There's nothing to defend. Just wait for it to die; it should be soon enough. I can see the inclusion of all 3 consoles having motion control completely killing the excitement surrounding it.

[QUOTE="RedruM_I"]Is Natal even going to be capable for games that are not **** party games? :|rzepak

Well Molineaux likes Natal so there is hope. Personally I hope for a Black & White game for consoles with natal controls.

Screw that, I want Dungeon Keeper 3 and another Populous.. Vastly superior game series compared to Fable and Black & white.

Valve is sick of party games? Really?

I'm sick of first person shooters, Valve.

No the updates being map packs, game modes, new weapons and of course new achievements. What have Halo DLC brought it? MAP PACKS OH JOLLY LET ME FORK OUT AN ADDITIONAL $10 FOR THEM. Also have you even played or understand how TF2 is even played?

Shame that hardly anyone can bash Valve using logic and reasoning.

Yeah. Nevermind the new weapons, game modes, maps, or community tools. Updates are just hats.

Explain how Valve is "milking" it when they continue to update it for free and sell it at obscene discounts.
