nowhere did i say valve is the smallest gaming company but they are a relatively small developer with its whopping 250 employees. im glad you think thats such a generous amount when gearbox has 170 and SD having 60 (which by chance has the technical backing of Bethesda software). theyre nowhere in the area on having over 7000 like EA or vivendi with its close to 3500. Valve has been developeing PC games for years and the PS3 has a totally different design while the 360 has relative hardware. why is that so hard to understand? is it really hard to believe that a company thats been developing on PCs for over 15 years MIGHT have some issues with developing on the PS3? Gearbox has had significant relationships with the other gaming companies through this gen and last....you dont see such credentials with Valve, with that said. do you actually WANT half assed ports from the pc to the PS3? or do you want a quality game that you can actually play without having to vomit every 5 minutes??

250 emloyees for an independent developer is not small. Obviously its not 5000 or 7000, but since when does it take thousands or hundreds of people to port games? For an independent game developer, again, Valve is nowhere near small. In actuality, 250 employees, and growing might I add, is actually fairly large, and they certainly aren't short of financial resources.....they are swimming in money.
Second, Valve has had other developers port every Half Life game to the Playstation brands, and most of the expansion games as well. If it was really a question of "manpower resources", Valve could obviously do this.
Third, I'm wondering, did you actually play The Orange Box PS3 version? I own it. The game is AAA quality. I bought it a year ago when I purchased my PS3. Some people spoke negatively about the game, but it plays fine. I'm assuming patch-fixes were put in long ago.
At anyrate, like I said, you don't need to be EA's size to port games. Valve is more than large enough, and furthermore, EA wants to port all of their games to every console. So in other words, slvrraven9, not only is Valve not small and has has plenty of employess (more than most), not only does Valve have spitloads of money.....but Valve has resource backing themselves, from EA. lol Do you now see the fallacy in your point now, slvrraven9?
There's actually another reason that's not related to porting/developing capabilities or abilities.
While I can't prove it, I'm 90 percent sure that Valve is paid and/or incentivised by Microsoft....at least for the L4D games.
