It goes against their religious views.

Valve and Blizzard are the 2 best developers out there because not only do they make great games but they don't try and rip people off.

Paying for DLC is a complete and utter JOKE.

Yeah is that why you now have to pay for Garry's Mod?  Please Steam sucks compared to XBL.

I think its because no one in their right mind would ever buy a DLC, when they have access to free maps and content via mods.

Which is why Valve buys out Mods.....

Aint that the truth. These things start to add up as well over a period of time, paying for all the extras will wind up proving to be a complete waste of money and could have been better spent over the course of 5 years. I bet with the cost of Live plus having to pay for extra content like maps on 360 games that are also available on the PC like C&C3 or UT3 which will no doubt have a huge mod and maps community just like UT2004 had. RTS's and shooters always have lots of maps and mods available, its only natural and I dont think you should have to pay for them, its just a complete ripoff.

buying Full retail games digitally.....like Call of Duty 2, or Half Life 2.

and its the community who makes that maps.....

I love Valve. They make me wait a long time for their games, but they're always good, and I always get free stuff with them. I received like 5 games when I bought HL2 on PC, and I didn't even know it since it didn't say it on the packaging.BioShockOwnz

Indeed. Steam is by far the best digital distribution service for games and mods.

according to Valve, they make $10 more off every Steam Sale over Retail sale, which is quite a large difference.

Steam started a revolution in PC gaming....In just a few years, nearly every new game can be bought digitally, through Steam or other services, like EA link, and other. 

I officially love Valve now.

Its not like they are ripping you off with Steam....the price you pay for games over Steam is exacly the same as the retail price....If anything, its more convienent through steam.

You think Valve has more servers than MS for downloadable content? MS has all of the demos/videos/game content, XBL arcade, and the entire on-demand TV/Movie stuff, much of which is in HD.

So what about the developers that put everything they want into their game but then a month or more later they say "Hey, you know what would be cool? If we do/add ________ to our game!"

Yes they do, fool. They've added maps for DOD:S, CounterStrike Source, and Half-Life 2 deathmatch. Not only maps, but even models and new gun. All for free.

Because MS is trying to create new revenue streams to make their venture profitable. I highly doubt GeoW would have sold alot more if MS waited a month and shipped with those 6 extra maps.
