Really, why can't we be friends? O.o This video didn't really make me think differently of these two games, they both look great. I like the art style of Killzone 2 more but the GoW video looked a lot more fun.

Well considering I asked a dev when they were looking to release it on the ask a dev thread on the Killzone 2 board on the Playstation Underground forum.. I think their word is more reliable than gamespot, they said early 08.

In every interview, SCE executives have stated early 08. End of 08 is when you would like to see it released, because it fits better with your argument.

And notice that you changed your argument from Gears 2 being released simultaneously with Killzone to "by then [Killzone 2's release] we will at least see Gears 2."

Fact of the matter is that Killzone 2 will probably be released many months before Gears 2, as it has been in development for much longer. We will be fortunate to get Gears 2 by 2008 at the earliest. Killzone 2 has been confirmed to release early 2008.

flexmaster, I think a developer of a game knows more about his/her game than some random editor for a website.. Also, the SCEA of Sony said that it would be in the first half. Could you send us the link to the forum though?

To answer the thread question. Gears 1 looks a lot better graphics wise. It has much better textures, and more small details in the environments. The only thing Killzone 2 does better IMO are the animations and lighting a little. But Gears is allready a year old almost and no one knows for sure when Killzone 2 is coming maybe it will even be delayed thats why GS has it as TBA. And by then Gears 2 footage will blow it away in every way.

Honestly lems... Gears 2? First off, these sites are comparing a finished second-gen 360 game (often touted as the 360's "graphical poster child") to a PRE-ALPHA version of a second-gen PS3 game.

Second, What makes you think Gears 2 is going to look any better than gears 1? Halo 3 looks almost identical to halo 2 (it does look better, but only slightly). I honestly think gears 2 is going to look very similar to 1, but maybe a bit better. Closer to UT3 i'm guessing. But even then... we have yet to see KZ2 as an even nearly finished product. Stop waging all your cookies on a game you haven't even seen yet.

Expect something similar for Gears 2.

Right now I thing that Gears looks better but that's only because its a very well polished game and the best looking game out to date. That being said Killzone 2 is in pre-alpha and even still looks very nice. I have no doubt in my mind that it will end up being a much better looking game than Gears come release however.

I'm not sure if you're disargeeing with the statement that sequels on the same system typically don't look vastly different.

If you are can you post an example of a sequel that blew it's predecessor on the same system?

Alright, I agree with you there. But we really won't know how Gears 2 stacks up vis-a-vis Killzone 2 until we actually see the game.

Post an example of a sequel looking "much better" on the same platform. I want to see what kind of jump you are expecting.

Some of my thoughts. Halo 2 overall looked quite a bit better than the 1st one. PGR Series, PGR 2 was quite an improvement over the 1st one. Resident Evils on PS 1 improved massively over the 1st one as well as the Tomb Raider series. Virtue Fighter on Sega saturn compared to Virtue Fighter 2 aren't even comparable. Sonic Series on the megadrive improved dramatically.In my opinion the jump will be noticiable but I have no idea by how much.It could be heaps or it could be minimal but there will definatly be an improvement, in some rare instances sequels have looked worse but sometimes these have been intentional as the game may be more advanced in other areas.

Uhm why do people cling to the fact that Geow2 is gonna look phenomenal?? I mean the U3 engine is almost pushed to it's limits look at the UT3 engine that is suppose to "top" Geow it looks only barely better...

I am not saying that the engine "sux lolool" I am just saying it has already shown most of it's potential...

By that logic Killzone enigne will always top the U3 engine... Killzone 3 > Geow 2 etc.
