Do you think video games last gen and this gen (PC, PS2, PS3, PSP, Xbox, Xbox 360, GC, Wii, GBA, DS) generally makes you think? And in this process makes you learn something? It could be anything. I'm doing research that video games make people think and learn.

Brain Training does. Lots of little mini games in there that make you "think".

In general though, I wouldn't say games require that much thinking. Some puzzle games do, but I don't play videogames to learn...it's just entertainment.

of course but in the process you learn something especially in playing simulation and strategy games. critical thinking, solving problems, history, mythology, social problems, philosophy, strategizing, etc. The Witcher makes you think on which to choose in times of dilemmas? Bioshock involves philosophy mainly objectivism by Ayn Rand right?

Civilisation games. The civilopedia gives tons of info.

However, the vast majority of games don't make me think, it's just like a blockbuster movie. Fun but pretty brainless.

I think it makes you think and learn alot more then most TV shows. Most games give you a mystery or puzzle to solve to get from one end of the level to the other. Of course there are some games that are just pure entertainment but the truth is you can learn something from ANYTHING.

Oh yes, video games help you learn, but some in ways unintended.

Like when I played Superman 64, I thought, "Man, why the hell did I buy this crap?" and I learned afterwards to never trust the superhero brand for video games ever again.

yup. difficult games like Ninja Gaiden makes people more adoptable and more attentive.(on the very difficult settings)

also RTS games makes you a quick thinker coz you have to make a good decision in limited time.(again in good RTS like AOE3)

so basicaly games that execute good difficulty does involve people in certain thinking skills.and by good difficulty I mean good A.I etc not a simple increase in life and damge dealt by enemy.

oh and good luck on your research :D

also I assume good gamers have good reflexes.. Im simply assuming this and don't have any back up. especialy in the nes/snes era! games in that era required some crazy timing.so you can say that older games were more stimulating.and that the majority of current games tend to be aimed at casual gamers which doesn't require that much learning to finish.

wrong. you can't even play a Car Sim without thinking. and with every experience that is even the slightest different than any other experience, you will learn. (except for you...appearently...)
