I'm watching the Microsoft conference and most of the games have the same formula. Kill a wave of enemies, move to different location, kill more enemies, cutscene, quick time event, rinse and repeat, etc. Even Splinter Cell, a series known for infiltration and stealth, is following the formula where ALL you do is kill waves of humans. It kind of saddens me how unimaginative and needlessly brutal all of these games are. What does System Wars make of this? Are these games fvcking up our brains?

If you don't want to play violent video games, give Max Payne 3 a try. That game has no blood and gore, the guns are actually squirt guns, and when you shoot bad guys in the face candy and treats fall out.

The games did feel a little samey, but Im assured that each will have their quirks. Splinter Cell could be played more stealth like I assume, and Halo was Halo - don't expect anything different there. But if you are looking for less violent games, MS did show a few there that might be of interest. Otherwise - check out some different types of games. Maybe some of the older Xbox exclusives like Crackdown or Viva Pinata (yes, these can be violent titles, but they are imaginative, unique and fun).

This of course assumes that all M rated, violent games are like that.

Actually, TC summarized a ton of video games, not just M rated ones.

I completely agree with you TC. Every gameplay footage and trailer I saw in MS's conference made me thought that they could easily past as Hollywood blockbuster movies rather than games.

Remember a lot of you ushered in this era of "mature gaming" by claiming these series were the future for the last 10 years. Now that they're all becoming stale and repetitive, I wonder what the next generation of gaming will be defined by...

So does TC have a problem with msot games in general? Because a good chunk of them follow the pattern of "kill enemies, go to new location, cutscene/ story scene, go kill more enemies." I don't tihnk it's a bad formula especially if the combat is good.

I mean, I've briefly tried some of the newer ones at parties and stuff (like Mortal Kombat, BF3, and Gears of War 3) and I wasn't impressed. Mortal Kombat was kind of fun because I haven't played any Mortal Kombat games in years, but all shooters feel pretty much the same to me.

The problem is, most games this generation use this formula.

I agree with TC, it's very boring.

It's why I've become so much more particular with the games I buy today.

I like to make sure that what I'm buying is fun and different from the mainstream.

I hate to sound like a hipster, but it's the formula for most successful mainstream games.

(Wow the audience with intense violence, and then some highly detailed cinematics over and over again.)

It sucks that some people are so easily amused.

You're just getting bored because there is so much of it nowadays.

This is when you start looking for smaller games and jumping into different genres.
