DOA4

VF5

I know, someone's probably thinking "bububu... teh hot chix!" to which I will respond: you haven't lived until you've seen VF5's Vanessa, all sweatied-up with the sun glistening off of her cleavage. It's true that some people may prefer DOA4's idealism when it comes to character design, with wide-eyed realdoll faces, flat butts, and big, friendly melons. But considering how much skin DOA relies on showing to get attention, it's a shame it's not better rendered. Everyone in the game looks like they're made of perfect, smooth plastic. In Virtua Fighter 5, everyone's skin is covered with thousands of tiny bump-mapped imperfections, which leads to some amazing effects. When characters get wet, their clothes and skin glistens in the light with moisture, and all the tiny imperfections look increadible when you see the game moving in high definition. You can't get that in DOA4, because the detail just isn't there.

And if you think that the skin rendering on this monk is impressive, you haven't lived until you've seen Vanessa when she's all sweatied up, with the sun glittering off of her cleavage. DOA4 might load up a healthy helping when it comes to shameless fanservice, but at least VF5 gives you something high quality to look at.
DOA4 does have online, a credit which can't be denied. But really, I'd rather play an excellent fighting game offline than a broken one online. VF5's graphics are just the icing on a cake that's just plain all around better than DOA4, except for the lack of online (which IMO is an acceptable tradeoff considering how much better it is.)
