Looks like Japan isn't happy with Virtua Fighter 5... wtf? I thought this was crazy in Japan? I'm not into fighters but... isn't this more popular than Dead or Alive 4? :|

They play it a million times in arcades. Why would they buy it? They already played it.

even so, i dont think many saw this coming. Cows hyped this game like no tomorrow. Good score, but sales flopped.

BECAUSE MOST JAPANESE ARE PLAYING IT IN THE ARCADE!!! No one realises this. Arcades are still big over there.

I understand that everyone plays it in the arcade, but christ everyone played street fighter games in the arcades also and the games would sell well for consoles. doesn't matter how much you play in the arcade you have to go home sometimes right?

Let's not forget that Tekken is a hot seller there too, plus VF had always been selling high there too. Marvel Vs. Capcom 2? Sold like crazy when it hit the PS2. Arcade or not... it was supposed to be a high seller.

I have a feeling Japan may actually begin to warm up to the 360 in due time. The games are there, the system is there, sales of the Wii and PS3 are waning somewhat, and one of Japan's most highly praised developers is making three exclusive games for the 360 with possible sequels to follow.

VF5 is in the arcades.  Its similar to what happened with me and my friends with SC2, we played it in the arcade so much in between DDR that we just didn't weant to buy the game.

lmao.. sales of the wii is waning? (whatever that means) um, the reason for the wii sales, is cause there really isnt any high profile games for it yet. the xbox 360 had there last high profile game. animal crossing on the wii is a key franchise for wii success over there, smash brothers, mario, ect...

Sales have slumped in Japan lately. Maybe it's just the post-Christmas bring down or a lack of units in stock, but I have never seen two consoles lose so much momentum in the space of a couple of weeks.

Actually these figures are wrong. 30,000 is how many VF5 sold on its first day where as 60,000 is how much DOA4 sold in its first week(4 days). VF5 was actually the top selling game in Japan last week.

There are two reasons for this... #1 DOA is a game that they haven't seen before and 1 of the only appealing games that system has for that audience... you'll notice that nearly everyone that got the system bought that game. #2 The Sega arcade sticks are big sellers over there and were reported defective... as they were being sold with the games, this likely had some impact on sales.

Still selling 3:1 over the PS3 and like 20:1 over the 360
